Everything comes to an end. It's only a question of when.

Is the world coming to an end?  or Will the world end in 2012?   UGH! Here we go again! Remember the Y2K scare?  Well, supposedly the world was going to end because of some computer glitch.  The world was suppose to end several times in the last decade and probably since the beginning of time.  Eventually the world will end for those who happen to die in lets say 2012.  I'm just saying! That's all!  ???

Ah great...I guess I'll try to wrap this one up quick before the religious zealots go nuts with their reasonings. The answer is simply no. Technology has evolved so well that we are capable of hearing news of a disaster within minutes. Because we're now so well connected around the world, we know exactly what's going on. We have so many trained specialists on these matters that it's impressive how much we know about our planet now. Simply put, more seems to be happening because we are tracking everything by-the-minute on this globe. It has always been like this, just without the tech in the past.
Example-
If you were to live 100 years ago on some farm in Alabama and a devastating earthquake hit some rural part of China, chances are you and the rest of Alabama would never hear of it happening in your lifetime.

Even studying hot-zones of earthquakes and disasters in general has remained at a steady pace throughout human history. Once in a while you'll get a huge one though. But that's our world for ya! Always burping and farting. To further your knowledge, check this out-- http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/07/05/going-down-death-rates-due-to-extreme-weather-events/

So don't worry. We're doing pretty good in the grand scheme of things. Don't let these vague apocalyptic stories like the Mayan calender scare you-- keep it real. My only recommendation is to help those that have been effected by these disasters. Use technology! Donate or something! Hope this helps.  ;)

im sorry but this is not a very good argument you have here. its actually terrible. just because the world is connected does not explain the events that are taking place. i think its very weird that the earthqaukes and stuff are happening.

I suppose someday it will.  Bet the dinos wondered too.  Not anytime soon though.  Hey, spring is here and the world is renewing itself just like always.  Sure, there are earthquakes and volcanos, but there always have been.  Some years there are more and some less.  Hey, in the very early 1800's there was even a major major earthquake in Ohio that totally changed the landscape and the world did not end.  Amen.

I'm unaware of why it's a bad argument. Could you explain more in depth? I never said technology is stopping earthquakes if that's how you read it ;) Pretty much since we're connected, we hear a lot more of what's going on in the world compared to 100+ years ago when we barely knew what was happening outside of the US. Simply put, our scope was really limited on the world. That's why we're hearing about all these earthquakes now-- up-to-the-minute sources around the world. It's just awful that they've hit urbanized areas lately. Poor people  :(

The realistic scenario here is earthquakes.  We can prepare for them as best we can, but we can't stop them.  That's my point. Being prepared for natural disasters is one thing, sitting around worrying about the world coming to an end is another.  Certain things are beyond our control.

You're right...sorry for not going further into detail on my part. Most NDisasters are unavoidable, but atleast we can prepare for them so we aren't stipped of our infrastructure and forced into extinction. We can aid eachother incase it happens also due to our tech. I studied desertification and weak-insecticide products a while ago and it scares me a lot more than most major Ndisasters do (one could argue that these 2 are controllable disasters). To think we'll have massive food-shortages around the globe if we can't spread the information on how to stop it. It's all about getting the info around so we can continue thriving.

Thanks for clarifying.  I think our thriving is the problem. Sometimes humanity really does remind me of a virus, reproducing and destroying as we go along.  There are only 2 outcomes I can think of in that scenario.  The host kills the virus or the virus kills the host.  Either way, the virus ends up dead.  Translation: The earth kills us or we kill the earth, and thus kill ourselves.  The good news is if we die out, there won't be any more Twilight movies. That almost makes it worth it for me.

P.S. Batman is awesome.

I've seen it once...I thought it was a little exhaggerated in every aspect. Critics say it was awful-- reviews were generally bad. I see the first episode was a record-breaker for TruTV when it came to views but I imagine the show just crumbled afterwards....unless...THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT US TO THINK!

Yeah...Twilight...ugh. But going from your virus example, yes. I do believe something similar. Bacterial growth takes the exact path that humans are taking so far. Example--

http://microvet.arizona.edu/Courses/MIC205/Exams/05Exams/06-14_BacteriaGrowth_1.jpg

I'm under the impression that we are slowly starting to hit our stationary phase. However since we have the ability to actually control ourselves, I believe we have the ability to stop extinction. It's all about responsibility. Even though our past shows different, I hope we can get over ourselves and try to fix potential outcomes rather than capitalize on them like so many do (ie "omg earthquakes! It's never been like this before! The world is ending!"). The key here --and to everything in this subject matter-- is being aware and working to fix it. It's either that or die out like they would have in the movie "Idiocracy".

Have fun getting your paper on Sunday Morning and the First thing you see is this HEADLINE:

IT'S TRUE, IT'S TRUE
THE RAPTURE HAPPEND LAST NIGHT

CLOTHES FOUND SCATTERED EVERYWHERE, CARS UPTURNED, PLANES CRASH OUT OF SKY

GOD EXISTS

President to address nation

...

This is news channel 6.
Rapture happend last night
Details at 10

...

We may look stupid now but you'll wish you was an idiot one day too.
Have fun burning in Hell, you have been warned.
First of all, you don't know how to write at all, maybe you need to rethink what you are so knowledgeable about. Secondly, You will forever be stupid to me, because you make no sense and you are very ignorant.

You need to get off your computer, go out into the world, and experience the REAL WORLD. For instance-swap your day with a bum on the streets in the town where you live that has no home. Even better-Why dont you explain to my older brother, who is HIV posotive (his partner was being false with him) exactly why He should believe in God now, and how God is gonna make it all better for all of the believers in this world????  Don't you dare give me that bullcrap about how God is punishing him for being adulterous- Load of sh!@ He deserves love and  live life just like the next man, sexual relations are just a part of anyone's nature.

To say"you have been warned", is almost like you are making a religious threat to everyone. So bacially you are sayng that all people in this world, believers, semi-believers, atheists ect. that  that dont cross this fictional line that you have drawn, and step over to your side and believe in YOUR GOD are doomed to suffer when the end of the world comes?

I've got news for you, when the end of the world comes, it will be natural selection, and if you have some kind of crutch that you lean on to get you through, it will dissapear and you will have to deal with death, dying and survival just like everyone else!

Also let me clear something up for you. Atheists don't believe that they know everything, 32 years on this planet, and  I know that I certainly don't. We are just not bound by one single ideal or god to follow....We are individualistic, a human-plethora of ideas and truths based in the realities of life.

We don't have Atheist meetings. We don't tell people that if they are not an Atheist, that they are going down. But we do recognize the fallicies in the bible and the "too good to be true" mentality that religious folk tend to talk about alot, and that is just not for us.
We just take life for what it is-

The way you are talking marrielissa- You are starting to remind me of a certain religious man that decided he would have his people follow him to another country to start their own community, and eventually die for their religious beliefs, for him, and by their own hand!  These people were taught to viewed the rest of the world as outsiders, people not of the faith, and he brainwashed his believers into doing unspeakable things to their families and friends.

Do you even know about Jonestown? I really think you need to look that up on youtube and educate yourself.

How can you explain millions of innocent people dying because they practice a certain religion or religious wars that go on for decades? You can't use the bible to explain that-because the problem stems from the bible to begin with.
To me, it is not necessary to die for this.

Don't be so nieve and foolish in your ways, that you can't see what is right in front of you, religious or not! That is not a warning, its just reality. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

Be slow to anger marieelissa, most of the people here are shaken by the religious hypocrisy Constantine's gang and the knights Templar etc caused. Also they are being told by the world that it's not fallible thus making them seem weird unaccepted and closed-minded.  Even if atheists read the bible they probably failed to find out how it applies and why it happen.  You guys like scrips right? Yeah I know you do :)

One of the many hypocrisies churches committed was fighting in the name of God!!!!!

True disciples of Jesus do not engage in warfare as Jesus himself stopped his apostle from defending him with a sword!!!! (Matthew 26:52)

Paul told his disciples not to fight in the name of God (2 Corinthians 10:3,4)

Jesus said love your enemies (Luke 6:27,28)

However there's a line!!!!!

Galatians 6:9,10 Reads 9  So let us not give up in doing what is fine, for in due season we shall reap if we do not tire out. 10  Really, then, as long as we have time favorable for it, let us work what is good toward all, but especially toward those related to [us] in the faith.

Show there's a slight favor to focus on helping out your own faith first then helping out others. If only I had this scrip during my falconer debate.

Again, you wouldn't have your little religion today if we followed Jesus' ways. Go ahead and explain every time-paradox you want. It won't change that this is the reality of it.

Here...let me make a point...
"Really, then, as long as we have time favorable for it, let us work what is good toward all, but especially toward those related to [us] in the faith."
"Really, then, as long as we have time favorable for it, let us work what is good toward all, but especially toward those related to us in color."

What's this called? Segregation. It works in different ways than just racism, you know. It does not matter what peoples backgrounds are when it comes to something as trivial as religion. The fact that you favor and believe you should help out a specific people rather than help out anyone in desperate need in a given disasterous situation says a lot about yourself and your beliefs. Unless the victim is planning to kill you, this is unacceptable behavior and is nonprogressive at all.
