Dude? Like?
« on: April 18, 2010, 06:57:09 pm »
So....I remember a discussion I had in my 6th grade homeroom class where talked about how "boys say
'dude' way too much and girls say 'like' way too much..." ... do people agree with that??
One of my pet peeves is how people address each other by "dude"...don't have enough courtesy to call
them by their name? I feel 'dude' is so impersonal...i don't know, maybe it's just me...

i notice it, but i'm not annoyed or offended by it much.
its nothing more than just common lingo that gets picked up
and carried around until it spreads and becomes normal  :dontknow:

I dont hear Dude too much but my daughters say "Um" and "Like" Constantly! When the story goes like this: Um, Today, like jessica was um like, "I told um josh that you um liked his friend um kevin" and um i was like,"ummm i told you not to tell him" and um she like told him anyway mom! i was like "i am sooo not going to be your friend anymore!" and um jess was like.... Now, every time i hear "um", "uh", or "like" i make the annoying wrong answer buzzer sound and it stops them in thier tracks and they have to repeat the entire sentence. It makes for a long drawn out conversation but hopefully they'll catch on. I have also had to start doing this as they are now using text speak in normal conversations!! its fine if your on the pc or phone but not when you are actually talking to someone!!!

Dude doesn't bother me as much as using "like" constantly does. I know I say "like" improperly sometimes, but some people really go to the extreme with it. I'm not talking little teenage girls either, I mean grown up men and women who should know better.

I guess I've just become so desensitized to that it really doesn't bother me anymore.  Not very many guys address me as dude so I've never given it that much thought.  Although just recently one of the guys that I tutor (I tutor math for the GED test) just started calling me that, but I consider the source and don't really pay attention to it.

When I first was dating my wife she called me dude all the time. Drove me crazy. I stopped that real quick. I don't know, there is something about that word. Sounds like it would be ok if you lived in Texas or some western state. I think everyone in California is named "dude" though. (LOL)

I completely agree with the statement that guys say "dude" way to much. My brother in law says "dude" all the time and it is so anoying. I always walk away from him when he starts saying that.
