Unusual animal behavior
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:08:31 pm »
Have you ever seen an animal outside do something that you think is odd?  Well I may have one for you. I looked out in my backyard the other night to see a rabbit eating birdseed out of a feeder.  I didn't have time to put it back up and left it sitting on the side of my flower bed. There he/she was having a snack. I didn't think that they ate seeds. I guess I learned something.

Let me know your story of unusual happenings.

I have outdoor cats and feed them each night, and for the last year when I go out and call for the cats I notice a black and white Skunk that follows behind the cats when I am calling for them, but the skunk stops about 200 feet away and will sit their and wait till I go inside and then the skunk will go over the the cat dish and start eating the cat food with the cats and it also drinks the milk I put out their.

I also had a fox come up one night and eat the cat food until I chased the fox off because I did not want the fox to get into the habit of eating the cat food.

I saw two boy dogs getting it on on a beach.  It was only for a few seconds I guess he realized he was doing a boy dog and stopped.

A Mommy Robin feeding her babies Cherry pie. I left it out after a cook-out. Mama thought it was for her, I guess. I started buying those individual pies and would break it up and leave it out for her, she came every single day, even after the babies left the nest.

I have one for you.  Last summer we had a lot of stray cats attacking birds in our back yard and one day I noticed that a baby bird had fallen out of the tree and it was bouncing around trying its hardest to get back in the tree to the nest.  My husband wouldn't let me touch it saying that its mother would reject it.  I wanted to help it in fear of the cats eating it so I stayed close by in case the cats came around.  They mother bird came back and was trying to help the baby by flapping its wings and nugging it but the baby just couldn't get up off the ground believe it or not the mother bird got the baby by the tree and using its beak and claws ( or whatever birds feet are called) climbed up the side of the pecan tree.  The little bird imitated its mom and in no time it was up the tree.  It didn't make it into the nest but onto the limb the nest was on.  Against my husbands wishes I put on my gardining gloves and climbed the ladder and put it in its nest.  I wish I would have had my video camera because no one believes me.  Never seen a bird climb a tree but it did.

What an interesting story.  I hope all is well with the baby bird and that it was not rejected by it's mother.  It was a good idea to put the gloves on.

LOL a lot of interesting stories.

I think I have one. I have a Dog named pebble he is a small dog about a 12 inches  of the ground. This dog is so freaking smart. We had made our dogs a Kennel to keep them safe because they were getting out into the street so we decided to build this for them out of chain link about 5 ft high well this little mother figured out how  to get out by climbing up the fence lol it was hilarious I didn't know dogs could do that lol well none of my other dogs do it so he is  special lol
Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.NEED Help? Check out my Beginners Guide pinned in the Support forum :)

I have a cat, named Shadow, who likes to walk in water!  Sometimes, as I am draining water out of the tub, he stands in the water that is still in the tub--walking from the back of the tub to the front of the tub.  I thought that was unusual, because I thought housecats were supposed to be scared of water, and walking in water.

I think it's unusual, and rather sad, when birds try to fly into windows or mirrors.  I walked out of work one day, and saw a bird trying to fly over and over again into the mirror of a car....it was really funny and very sad!!

wow...these are interesting...lol...although not too surprising, considering they are animals...lol (maybe it explains why we do crazy things
too sometimes, considering that are closest relative is an animal!)

I have a parakeet that when she was little, would dunk her head in the water repeatedly and pop up with a mohawk. XD

Right now she's with two male parakeets and she's really uppity/mean, not letting them on the swing if she wants it, etc. I guess the two males got fed up and now they're gay lovers. One of them is always asking the other for affection and if he doesn't get it, he'll start humping an upwards edge of a perch. It's the oddest thing I've ever seen a bird do.
