That's .. kind of your call. It's obviously, I'd like to think, meaningful or significant to you. You shouldn't base your decision on what a stranger says about something you want to do for yourself. It's a decision that is for the most part permanent.. so ask yourself, is this tattoo something you want for years to come? Will this tattoo mean as much to you in five years as it will the day you get it?

You might find someone with a completely different perspective too.

I have one it is love and unity in Chinese..But it looks like hubby's name backwards too lol.. I do want my nickname and a butterfly and the initial of my first name..I think some tattoo's are beautiful..And if you want it and it is something you will love forever why not.

i have one on the back on my neck of my hubby's name. some people have told me it's dumb cuz what if we divorce but i just ignore them. i also wanted to get my kids names on my back but that was when i only had two, now i have 3 children and i'm not sure i want that much ink on my back lol
i think the baby foot print is a cute idea! but you should make sure it's something you will want forever

I have three tattoos.  One of a daisy on my ankle, one on my back of a black cherry, and one on my lower back of a heart with my brother's initials (he died in 2006).  I've considered getting another one with my daughter's initials and birthdate but haven't decided fully yet.

I've found a good rule of thumb when it comes to tattoos is that you should pick a design, sit on the idea for six months and if you still want it, go for it.

I have 3 tattoos and I designed them all myself.  They all have meaning to me and on all three of them, once I decided what I wanted, I waited several months to make sure I still wanted them.  I strongly agree with the previous post that said to wait 6 months!  What you want to do is going to be your personal feelings.
That being said, I have to comment on the choice-I think that baby footprints come out REALLY cute looking, but how is your kid going to feel when he's 16, it's a hot summer day, he has friends over, and you have a tank top on.  All his friends get to see the baby foot thing LOL!  I would maybe reconsider and have something else-maybe his initials and date of birth or else you could find something that makes you think of him and do a picture of that?  If you're really set on the footprint thing, go for it, but consider what else will come with it later on. 
One other thing-if you have more, will you have to get more footprints??  LOL!  You wouldn't want to make other kids feel less loved, but you don't want your back covered with footprints either

I have thought about getting a tattoo but I always get stuck on where to get it and what to get. Personally I would like to get something that represents my personality at growth but in a location that is not visible to the public. But then I don't want to expose my private areas to some stranger to ink up.

I love tattooes!!  I have two and would love to get at least one more.  I think if you really want a tattoo you should get one no matter what anyone elese says.  It is your body after all.

My hubby wants to do that with our next child...i think it is a great idea...he has drawn up names of our other 4 children in a tribal like pattern...they are pretty neat!

I think that is such a sweet and wonderful idea!! not only will it mean something to you in your older years, but it will mean something to your son aswell!

I know i have 2 tatoos myself. One of a blue dolphin jumping out of water on my left shoulder blade and one of a multi coloured seahorse on my lower back. both are because i love sea animals
