There are some great ideas out here that I might just have to try! I found a great site called AllYou. It's full of great money saving ideas and every day they give you a link to get something for free. I have gotten multiple things of shampoo / conditioner, treats for my dogs, plus some other freebies off that site and all it cost was my time to fill out the submission form. It also has some great tips on how you can save money on different occasions. A big one this time of the year is how to save money on the whole "back to school" situation if that applies to you.

Coupons are also you friend! I know people who will only buy things if they have a coupon for it!

ride your bike to work or car pool, eat ramen noodles, take shorter showers.  Do not leave lights on if you are not in a room.  Wash your clothes in cold water.

I buy the generic brand of Walmart coffee (Great Value). I like their Columbian, it tastes good and costs less than name brand.

I hang out my laundry...  but toss the towels in when they are almost dry cause i dont like scratchy towels...    boil eggs with potatoes for potato salad or anything else i can use boiled eggs in...  I also use vinegar in the dish washer for rinse agent instead of the jet dry stuff

Ok I just found a website that does discount restaurant gift certificates...and before anyone starts jumping up and down, hollering about forum rules-- they do not have any referal bonus and I'm not posting a link...this is just a helpful tip from one penny-pincher to another-- It's called restaurant.com and you can get,say a $25 gift certificate for $10...there's always a minimum purchase amount like $35 but still you can't beat that! Also if you signup for "likelist" (Google it) they send you $25 certificate code for free! I just got mine in my inbox and got my certificates.

i reuse and recycle everything.. if i find a good sale on an item i will buy it but not use it until the old item is completly shot .  I use less meat and more veggies and pasta.  cool only the main room thru the day and the bedroom at night.  thru the summer i use my electric convection oven and then in winter use my gas stove usless gas is sky high again.  get all the online freebies that i can dont use coupons unless it is cheaper than the cheap brands.  i buy meat on sale only and plan my meals around that.. i also keep a price book.  i check out different sites such as frugal ways frugal recipes  and others for money saving tips.  i guess you could say frugalling is my hobby.

Google "hey its free" (dont want to post link because of ToS) its a blog with frequent posts on free sample offers. There are a ton of free things that companies give out. I dont request all of em though, I only get the ones that I'll actually use. Most recently I got a free 2liter bottle of soda  :)

Here's a couple:

If you have Craigslist in your area, that's a good place to get items you may need (like garage sales).

Use less laundry detergent, especially if the washer is newer (not talking the high efficiency ones either).  Read an article online that says most people use too much detergent, so try using a little less than normal.  Also the earlier tip on washing in cold water too (if you pay for heat and/or water).

If you have direct deposit, and do online banking (with checking and savings account), setup an automatic transfer to move some money into your savings account - then when you write your paycheck in your checkbook, only write the amount less what is being transferred.  That way you'll be less inclined to spend it.  Easy way to start that is if you ever get a raise (seems rarer these days), whatever the increase is, move that to savings, and stay living on your same budget.  That worked wonders for me to build a nice cushion.

On similar lines to the auto-savings transfer, pay yourself an allowance for "fun" stuff.  Go to an ATM and withdraw your spending money.  Try to use that when you go out, and when it's spent, you wait until your next paycheck.

This is a big one for me-I unplug all the electronics that I am not using all the time.  Like when I'm at work or overnight, I have my TV's on a powerswitch and I turn that off.  I use the microwave for 30 seconds a day-the rest of the time it's just on and wasting energy so I unplug that.  i do it with everything that I don't use all the time (alarm clocks in guest bedroom, cell phone charger, etc).  My electricity bill went down by 50% when I started doing that!  Some of those things just drain energy.
