I only turn  my laptop off at night when I go to bed.  If I have to run out and do something it will time out after a while and go into sleep mode or I will put in in sleep mode.

;)    If I am not mistaken: Sleep mode and hibernate are the same thing. Both are the best options because when you come back your programs are still there. Never turn your off your computer without clicking on 'sleep mode or hibernate'...because you may lose some important data.

I leave my computer on most of the time but in hibernate while not in use.  Probably 2 or 3 nights a week I actually turn it off for the night.  I do shut it down on Sunday morning because we are gone all day and get home too late to do anything so  I give my computer a little break.

well u would think it would save energy but it really isnt. if u turn ur computer off and on all the time it will be hard on the hard drive or whatever and it will take more power to turn on then to turn it off. u can leave it on just put it in sleep mode.

I leave mine on and let it go to sleep when I'm not using it...but a word of warning if you have a webcam: people can remotely access it if they know what they're doing so turn it off when you're not using it, and as an extra measure, turn it to a wall...just the thought of someone spying on you or your kids....

i have never heard of this. does this also apply to the webcam that is built into my laptop. honestly, i don't even know how to use it but the thought of someone being to see what i am doing is totally creepy

I recommend shutting it down while you sleep at least once every 72 hours to get a fresh boot, however just for the Nick JR portion of the question...let the screen saver turn on and he move the mouse when he's ready. Corporation managers do the same thing daily...only they are meetings and not playing. I hope ;)

I shut off the computer if I don't plan on using it for a couple of hours or more.
