Can MONEY buy you happiness?

Depression isn't an issue in 3rd world countries, because they cherish things more, since they don't have anything.

Uh...I think being starving and living in crap conditions would be depressing.  This is a silly thing to claim.

but they don't just sit and mope like we do.  physiologic depression (lack of norepinephrine/seratonin) is purely a condition of the developed world.  we have too much, so we want more, and can't get more.  if we were constantly worried about where the next meal would come from, we wouldn't be depressed about not having a new computer, of a good car.

Yes it can help, but does i actually  buy it? Not so much.
But if you travel and find love abroad, it takes money etc.

Money can't buy happiness, but nor does it come from sex, or family, or respect, or any number of other things. None of those things hurt, though, so there's no reason to say they're inherently bad, just because they don't CAUSE happiness.

I don't think money can buy happiness.

It certainly makes life easier though.  It is necessary in our culture.

An increase in my Social Security payments would certainly ease my financial situation. It costs so much now days just to live.

She sounds like she is insecure and maybe even unhappy with her lifestyle.  No, money cannot buy happiness and it has been shown that people with a lot of money are some of the most unhappy people around.

while this is entirely possible and very likely the reason she acts this way, it could also just be that she is proud what she has accomplished in her life and is not necessarily "showing off" but is proud of her possesions. i say this only because of my sister. she is 22, engaged, no kids, and has been working her butt off fo 4 years and was just able to buy herself a house. she posted a buttload of pictures on facebook. not because she is unhappy or lonely, but because she is so proud of what she has accomplished. money did not buy her happiness but it cetainly bought her something that has made her very happy

i say in some cases 'yes' and 'no'
Yes: Having money frees me from the stress of not having money and wondering how will pay things in the past (if i have debt), present, and future. Being free of this worry can add to me happiness.

No: Money only relieves stress up to the level of covering my basic needs. Once basic needs are covered, no further happiness is gained. Additionally, having a lot of money can actually lead to further stress because i become worried about how to manage, preserve, and grow the money.
