Music for a Road Trip
« on: August 31, 2010, 06:54:52 am »
With Labor Day fast approaching, I thought it'd be fun to try coming up with road trip music. Try to think of songs that have the word "road" or "trip" (or any synonyms of those words) in their title, or major lyric (some songs are known more by a major lyric than their actual name). It doesn't matter the genre, and the words can be loosely related to "road" or "trip" (esp. if you want to justify why you think it'd fit). Here's a few of my own:

  • Hit the Road, Jack - Ray Charles
  • Highway to Hell - AC/DC
  • Seven Bridges Road - The Eagles
  • Life in the Fast Lane - The Eagles
  • These Boots are Made for Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra
  • Ridin' Solo - Jason Derulo
  • End of the Road - Boyz 2 Men
  • King of the Road - Rodger Miller
  • Take Me Home, Country Roads - John Denver
  • Ride the Wind - Poison

And for my wild card, Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin because it's the theme song for United Airlines (which is how it is known today).

"Queen of the Highway" by The Doors.

And yeah, definitely "Highway to Hell"!

Those were all good... I got a chuckle out of Whitesnake (I guess I haven't heard that one in a while, so I didn't think about it). And Route 66 is perfect for that last road trip of summer. I've got a few more:

  • Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson (ok, not a great one for a road trip, but it fits)
  • Airplanes - B.o.B.
  • Halfway Gone - Lifehouse
  • Shut Up and Drive - Rihanna
  • Far Away - Nickleback
  • Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
  • Blvd. of Broken Dreams - Greenday
  • Walk This Way - Aerosmith
  • Counting Blue Cars - Dishwalla
  • Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac

And finally, there's this mashup by DJ Earworm that mixes a ton of pop songs into one cohesive mix about running out of gas, appropriately titled No More Gas:
