awesomely easy and healthy potato chips
« on: September 04, 2010, 02:34:03 pm »
i just found the coolest recipe for potato chips you make in your microwave that are quick, easy, healthy, and delicious! you wash a potato and then slice it into very thin slices. get a microwave-safe plat and lightly oil it (i used olive oil) or spray with cooking spray, and lay the potato slices out with the thicker ones in the middle. then you can add whatever flavorings you like by sprinkling them on top of the slices. of the 3 batches i made, one i spritzed with a little lemon juice and sprinkled with salt, the second i spritzed with vinegar and sprinkled with salt, and the last was just salted. then you put the plate in the microwave and set it for 4 mintues. keep an eye on them so they don't burn (mine have taken anywhere from 3 to 6 minutes, its all depends on the thickness of the slices) when they are lightly brown, carefully pull the plate out of the microwave and enjoy! :)

Sounds like a  great idea.  I must try your recipe and possibly add my own ingredients.  Not too much of a fan of vinegar.

are they mushy or crispy? i like to fry my potato
slices in olive oil until golden and crispy... but this
is definitely something i'd like to try!

recently, i bought some potato-skin seasoning
(i think its mccormick) because they always have the
3 for $1 deals at the grocery store we shop at and
i love trying out new seasonings. anyway, i sprinkle
that on top of my taters and it adds a bit of spice
with a deep, hearty flavor.

i wonder how many ways to can cook potatoes?
there has to be lots...
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

@mrisha: yrah, i don't like the vinegar ones either, but sister loves them so i made them for her. yu can pretty much add any flavorings you like. i made osme more last night and i used powdereed cheese, the kind they sell for putting on your popcorn and also used the ranch powder mix from hidden valley and both varieties were delicious!

@cloudsoup: they are very crispy IF you cut them thin enough. i cut a few slices thicker and they had the texture of fried potatoes/home fries and were still pretty good. the best thing is that they have no oil or grease on them. that spice sounds like it would be perfect on these chips. just sprinkle it on before you pop it in the microwave. and yes, there are many many many way to cook potatoes. the only vegetable that i think is more versatile that potatoes is corn :)

Sounds like a great recipe.  I don't normally eat potato chips exactly for the fact that they are usually just extremely unhealthy.

well, this is great  I can't have storebought chips for a myriad of reasons, and I don't fry things either, so absolutely I will be trying this sometime this month.  I'm adding it to my recipe book right now!   :notworthy:

That's a great way to make chips but you can also do the same in the oven and really doesn't take that much longer. I've been trying to get away from microwave cooking since my husband has cancer.

so funny that you posted this because my husbadn had the same thought so we tried it. they did not come out as crispy but were still very good. i made a little dipping sauce for them out of minced apples and apricot preserves and they tasted just like the sweet potato fries from tacone, but not at all greasy
