As far as secret shopping is concerned....you can talk to stores individually (management) and ask them directly if they participate in customer service surveys and offer your service for a discount.  I did this with several smaller retail operations here in Tucson and got a discount on what I would have bought anyway.  I have my own business cards and a questionaire I fill out and return to the manager who then gives me a discount 5-10% off my next order.
