Now a days, in this time of technology, I see people discard small change everywhere. If I come upon a penny or quarter of course I pick it up. At the mall I watch people walk by coins on the floors. Even in line at the cashiers, people would take the dollar change but leave the coin change on the counter. Are Americans so stuck up that, small change is not good enough for us? In college, I lived on discarded change. You can find change on the floors any where, in the change slot in vending machines or on top of the vending machines. I even saw somebody throw away change! So, are you a Change snob that you would pass by
lose change? I was just wondering b/c  I get a rush every time I get my 2cents & 15cents processed & see my monies increase each day! I was just wondering b/c even in these jobless times there are people that will literally throw
away small change.

There are a lot of times I leave my change. I do this so that the next person who comes along that might be short a little change will have it. I have been in a spot where I have been a few pennies short but because some one left their change I was able to get what I needed. Not because it is not important. If I see change on the floor or the ground I pick it up.If I drop it I scrounge around to pick it up lol

indeed, it is amazing how sometimes people will take for granted even the smallest change...I remember once I found like $2.00 worth
in the hallway, just sitting there...another funny story about pennies and heads-my friend told me that she used to take pennies that
were tails up and flip them to be heads up so others would have good luck.....makes me wonder how many times the pennies that
I picked up that were heads up were actually heads up :P

I agree with all responses. Yes, sometimes leaving change for others is a good thing but now a days I'm too poor to think that someone left change for another. I have 2 buckets of change for my 2 cats. It's there thrust fund for their vet issues. I can't afford vet insurance. I recall one of my stingy Aunts slapping my hands b/c I threw away 2 pennies when I was little. Now, I understand why I got punished. I'd do the same if I see one of my nieces throw away change. Just think how much money you could have if you picked up change daily. I get a charge when i see the amount I get when I'm pouring those buckets of change into the change machine @ Publix! The most i've earned collecting trashed coins was about 400 bucks! So, those who don't want their change PLEASE SEND THEM TO ME!!!!

I pick up pennies all of the time. I too am amazed at how some people don't care about the pennies as much as a quarter or dime. Maybe because I'm kinda poor... lol,   but those pennies add up

I pick them up all the time myself.  But the one thing I do when I pick them up is give a thank you and I remember and I hear you.  See if you know what I'm talkin about.  Look at the coins read what is on top!

I don't like to use the coinstar b/c you have to pay to use the machine.  If you roll it yourself its free by taking it to the bank.  Just place your sticky address labels on each roll and the bank will take them they will even give the the little papers to roll the change.   :dontknow:

:cat:  I definitely pick up any change I see - it does add up and comes in handy when money is really tight (seems that way, lately, anyway...) :-

i am not ashamed to pick up coins that are on the ground. all that little change adds up to dollars. when my family collects a lot of coins, we take them to the coin machine at the bank and cash them in!!! its a good way to save for my kids future. thank you to all the people that discard their change!!!

What a Great Thread!

Yes, I think it would be a great assumption that everyone in FC believe in "Every Penny Counts". We all can see how fast some change can add up.

Kinda funny story... I went to go fax something at mail store the other day. I pulled out my debit card to pay for it and the guy said to me, "There is a $3.00 minimum so you might want to buy some stamps or something else". I just kinda looked at him because I am thinking I don't need stamps why spend money on something I do not need. So I went into what my husband calls my bottomless pit or purse.lol. I grabbed out the amount needed in coins and the guy was not happy. :)

That change really adds up. We keep pennies, nickels,dimes,quarters... you name it. I remember when I was a kid my dad had this HUGE glass jar that sat in our living room. The whole family would always put all their loose change in it and then my parents used it to buy Broncos Season tickets for the family, pay for gas to go to yellowstone, ect. It really does add up.
