I use Norton to protect my computer and make sure I get the updates. I don't trust the downloads that claim they can get rid of them easily, especially if your computer is already badly infected.

I am currently using McAfee because it was on my computer but the best I have found is Kaspersky ... it was recommended to me by the Geek Squad at Best Buy and I really like this one.   I had the free version of AVG and got a terrible virus on my computer that I could not get off until I put on the Kaspersky.  I highly recommend it.

Panda Cloud is a good one also Superantivirus they will not conflict with each other both have free versions and are recommended by PC.com  which is where I got links to both of them..they keep my puter nice and clean

I cannot abide Norton...Macafee or any other well known brands ..they are not user friendly and are a pain plus I have found them to be quite uneffective.
Love the Cloud

Free AVG is good. Spybot search and destroy is free. Hijack this will get rid of a ton of things (but read before you use it, it could potentially cause more harm than good)

One of the best things you can do though is prevention. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Anything that's "Free on the internet" via a popup is going to cause more harm than good.

Kaspersky is a great solution, albeit expensive one.

Norton and McAfee typically cause more harm than good.

Or you can switch to a Mac.

I definitely recommend Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It is free and definitely a great malware remover.

Also, if you want to free up junk and get more disk space while getting rid of stuff that may cause your computer to run slow or get infected, I definitely recommend CCleaner. Again free, fast, and very very trustworthy.

Malware Bytes has removed and fixed my computer after two different nasty virus attacks when nothing else seemed to work, but the trick is to not get them in the first place.  I was using AVG and figured if I kept getting them maybe it was time to look at using something else.  Because I am on traffic exchanges and surf safelists every day, I am probably much more apt to pick up viruses than many computer users.  I switched to Avast's free version and have not had any problems since.  I updates without slowing down my computer and it seems to be regularly detecting malicious threats and blocking them without blocking anything benign.  So far so good.

Good point. Avast is a really good one too. Make sure you clean your computer often after doing offers on this site. I'm not saying FC is infected, because I love FC! It's just...you never know from some of the offers

Also, never ever ever download AV Security Suite, Antispyware Soft, and Antivirus Soft. These are NOT anti-spyware programs; if you get them on your computer, they will completely take over and infect your computer, and you'll have to go through Windows Safe Mode and such to delete them.

malwarebytes is an excellent virus removal software for malware type trojans... Sometimes when you get the virus you actually can't even install malwarebytes if you didn't all ready have it. you must download a program called rkill. its just an exe file that kills all known malware processes... but its good to be booted in safemode to ensure that it will remain the viruses from attaching to the net... also most malware disables your internet so if you remove it you may still not be able to connect. you must go to your internet options, connections, and lan settings, and just uncheck the proxy server and ur internet will work again.

That is exactly what happened to me two times.  It was a Banker A Fox virus or something that kept telling me to download something to get rid of a virus, but in reality what it does it lead you to a site where it tries to get you to buy some useless software.  Really annoying.  Also, if the Malwarebytes does not work the first time, it often will work if you run it once more.  It takes a long time to scan but it may save you days of grief or save you from having to take your computer to a professional.

I use Norton Anti Virus, CCleaner and Malwarebytes. I also use Firefox as my browser and I think that protects  me a bit as well.

in my experiance Norton has been closer to a virus as opposed to anti virus, I had a great time getting it off a couple of computers, it blocks next to nothing from this decade, and it slows your computer wayyyyy to much. never bealive the guys at best buy  :sad1:
