Do you recycle at home?
« on: October 29, 2010, 02:54:15 pm »
I wonder how many here really recycle at home? I just read that 59% Americans recycle at home and I wonder how truthful is this percentage

I try to recycle everything I can.  The center near me takes everything except styrofoam and grocery bags.

Most definitely. I do my part to recycle plastic bottles, paper bags, etc. whenever possible. For the sake of future generations, we seriously need to adopt a greener lifestyle because Earth is our home.  :peace:

Yes they have state wide recycling now.  We separate paper, plastic and aluminum and set it out to be picked up certain times a week.

We recycle paper, cans, plastic, and glass. I think we probably recycle more than most homes around us, but I'm sure we can do more. We don't really dispose of food waste the way we should (it just goes in the trash)...I heard a lot of food waste can go in the Green Waste. But, my grandma does like to feed her plants with some of the vegetable scraps.

Absolutely.  We have a very nice program where we live, where the recycling is streamlined... ie, we don't need to sort.  It all goes in one bin and is sorted at the facility.  The city picks it up every other week, which is fine since the cart is huge.  They also take a very nice assortment of items.  For the items which we can't put in the bin, they have a drop-off facility for scrap metal, electronics, tires, batteries, etc.

We also compost whatever we can in our gardens.  It really helps enrich the soil.  As for all other garbage, our household produces one 13 gallon tall kitchen bag about every two weeks or so.

Recycling is really a human moral obligation to preserve the one place every human (no matter what their ethnicity, religion, political view, or social status) share together.  Continually burying trash in more and more landfills is not the answer, especially items which can easily be recycled.

Oh most definitely. I have a little paper bag set up in my room to resemble some sort of like basketball hoop so whenever I have old papers or cans, I chuck them in  ;D

Also, our family collects all bottles and cans and deposit them at the end of every couple of months for 5 cents per can/bottle at this little kiosk in town. Nice little spending money, and it saves the environment!

I love recycling! I moved this year to a new state and now I have about 100 brown paper bags from the grocery store that I have to turn in on Monday. I feel really good about helping the environment. I even use all natural household cleaners :)
