I would say a desktop is better since thats all I use in my 24yrs of life. Then again, I wouldn't mind getting a laptop if its easy to customize as a desktop. Yeah, I'm kinda geeky with computers LOL.

If it has sufficient memory and storage, a laptop is certainly handier.  It is important to try the screen in several different lights before you buy a laptop.  I've had a few that were impossible to see in sunshine but the newer ones are much better.

It depends on what you want to use it for... I have a very inexpensive laptop that I use when I want to surf the web while watching TV (its great to do offers, surveys, etc. during ad-breaks of your favorite show), or if I go someplace that has a wireless hotspot. I also use my laptop as a big MP3-player in my car for long trips (my car has an external AUX jack) or as a DJ for friends' parties. Nowadays the memory and processor speed are more than enough for these simple tasks (and I just use an external hard-drive to hold my MP3s).

For gaming, on the other hand, I prefer desktops. I try to supe up my graphics card(s), sound card, speaker system, etc. to get a great gaming experience. Because many of the modern games push the capabilities of computers, I like desktops because A) they usually have better speeds than their laptop counterparts and B) they are easier to upgrade the different components.

If it wasn't for gaming, I'd just go with a laptop because of its flexibility. Many of my friends have decided to get a laptop for their computing needs and an XBox (or Wii, Playstation, etc.) for their gaming needs.

Neither one is better. They are both computers, but a laptop was designed to be portable.

I have a laptop, but I'm always using my desktop whenever I'm at home. The desktop seems to be a lot easier for me to use, whereas the laptop is just what I use for college.

My desktop definitely has more power and dual 19 inch monitors are hard to carry around. I do a LOT more to make money online than surf the net, so it pays for itself many times over. When I surf the net with all the viruses and spyware around, I use another desktop with Linux on it and I also have a laptop with a 17 inch screen and a Netbook with a much smaller screen for portability. It fits great on the tray table of an airplane and the battery lasts several hours. When I flew to Charlotte and back last week I watched an entire video ecourse on using Facebook and had time left to read a few pdf reports to improve my skills. I just charged the battery during layovers. So the bottom line is, get whatever suits your needs the best, or get them all like I did.

What I think about laptops is that the auto select feature is horrible! If you hover your mouse, while trying to decide if you want to click or not, my new acer laptop will make that decision for you! Apparently you can not disable that feature. SUCKS!

I have an Acer laptop and I have never had that problem.  Other problems with software, yes but nothing like you are describing.  You may have a glitch that needs a techs touch.  Good luck.

I would say lap top, but then again they are much easier to throw out the window when they are acting up then a desktop is

When I do things that require focus like writing on my pc I rather be sitting at my desk, but the laptop is good for lounging around and watching videos. A mouse is a must for me though, and my girlfriend's laptop has crappy sound. So by the time I hook up speakers and a mouse to it, I might as well just use a desktop!
