Hi mstevenson2.  Thanks for stopping by.  I had never heard for cross tv.  I'll have to check it out but right now I don't know how I'd find the time to keep up with another social network. :P  It sounds like a great concept though.

What do you like to crochet?  I love doing afghans, hats and scarves but would also like to try my hand at a few sweaters.  I used to make my kids sweaters when they were young but haven't done clothing in years.

Hi Kim,

Hope your week is winding down for you - Happy Friday!  :)

Julie,

Yeah it's Friday!  I've had a really busy week.  I started the transcribing for 1940 census and have submitted over 11 projects.   The handwriting is atrocious on some of these files so it's a best guess but I have a 94% rate that isn't under arbitration by the quality checkers so I guess that's not too bad.  I'll keep going until they tell me I suck at it and they would rather not have my help.

If I get a name I don't recognize I try to go out on Ancestry and look for the person so I can spell the name correctly but dang it's tough sometimes.

We got most of the top soil, peat moss and cow manure we need to fill the above ground grow box Bob built me last weekend.  My son is coming today and I'll enlist his help with moving, opening and pouring the 40 pound bags into the grow box.  :)

How are you coming along on your projects?  I've been so tired this week.  I just can't seem to get myself motivated to do everything around the house, or even school work that needs done.  I'm keeping up but alot of the time its last minute rushing so I'm not overdue on anything.  Usually I have things done ahead of time but the burn out has gotten to me lately.

Take care!

Kim

Hi and welcome!  I've not heard of cross tv - thanks for letting us know about it.  I haven't crocheted in years but would love to do some winter hats and scarves.  Maybe soon!  :)

Hi Kim,

Yay!  Friday!  Hope you have a relaxed evening with Bob.  Your son, too, if he's there tonight.

That sounds really neat transcribing the Census like that.  I saw it on FB on my wall, to click if interested.  Does it pay?

I'm glad you'll have your son helping you with emptying the bags into the grow box. You're going to have a beautiful spot when it's ready and blooming!

I babysat this afternoon.  Tonight, our pastor's mom and dad came over to visit for awhile.  So now, I actually am getting in here to respond.

I understand burn out, totally.  Just find some Kim time here and there so it won't get to you.  Hope to "see" you tomorrow!

Julie,

My son didn't end up coming.  They were forced to pay to get their cat neutered so that was an unplanned expense that left them too broke to buy gas for the trip here.

Bob actually got all of the dirt, compost and cow manure poured into the grow box on Friday night.  All told the darn box ended up costing me close to 200 dollars.  Those are going to be some expensive eats for this summer.  (Wood, a new sledge hammer, a new whatchamacall it that he needed to dig up the ground, all the dirt, compost, manure and he burned up his saw in the process too!)

I bought two purple phlox ground covers for  a dollar each and replanted those, bought seeds to start cilantro and parsley in pots too.  I got two rows of green beans planted and two rows of cucumbers.  I'll wait a bit to get the tomatoes planted though.  I got the seeds in the ground before it rained yesterday and we're supposed to have rain pretty much all week.

I thought I'd try to save grooming money for the dogs and purchased a set of clippers.  What a mistake.  My dog is so matted the clippers wouldn't go through the mats.  I had to hand cut a lot of her hair and I'll still need to send her to a groomer because she is a mess!  It will have to wait until next week as I'm now close to broke again.   I have just some chunk change left for the week but a friend called and wants me to ride with her to a big flea market that is only open on Sunday so I'm going to go out for the afternoon but I have to get home in time to get a bunch of homework done to start the week.

Come on spring break!

Hope your weekend is going well.  Any more word on seeing the girls?

Crocheting is one of my favorite hobbies, also.  Mostly I like to crochet simple scarves or afghans so I don't have to think about it too much when I am relaxing or watching TV.  :)

I am interested in the subject of transcribing the census.  I ran into a brick wall for years until I found out one of my ancestor's last name was so horribly written by the census taker that the transcriber obviously could not read it and it was way off!!  I wonder why they didn't print.

Hi Kim,

Sorry your son wasn't able to come.  You and Bob got a lot done - that's neat!  You should take some before (just planted) pictures and some after pictures (blooming.)  It's kind of sad it all costs so much to do it.

Your comments about grooming your dog remind me recently of Veronica having the same idea with her dog.  To save money, she bought some kind of cutting kit to clip her dog's fur.  Lol, poor thing looked like she had a layered *bleep* lool!  But, hey, it was a lot cheaper than taking her in, and Fluff is now cooler!

Hope you can get some homework done.  Have a nice Monday!

Julie

That sounds great being able to watch tv while crocheting and not having to think about it much!  I don't now if I could keep my eyes off of what I was doing, lol!

Wow - I'm glad you were finally able to find out who your ancestor was!

Hope your weekend is going well for you!  :)

:cat:  I'm married, have 3 grown children, and 2 precious small granddaughters.  I teach Elementary Music part-time.  Because of my asthma issue and tests out-of-town, I can't work full-time right now.  I am very thankful for my job.
We have 3 cats and 1 dog (1 cat is mine - her picture is the one you see.)  I play the guitar, a little piano, sing (although on temporary break until new meds kick in), cross-stitch, read, and try to earn a little extra by joining sites like FC (super site!)  My hubby and I just love being Nana and Papa!!
I like your stuffed animals/yogurt episode! :)

I am 37 years old, single and just enjoying life as it comes.  I am also in school pursing a double major. cant wait to finish.  Life for me has been very unique.  Challenges everyday but the good part about it is that I always get past those challenges and grew stronger.  I am looking forward to many amazing things to come my way in the upcoming years.

Juanita,

You are the same as me when it comes to crochet.  I want simple patterns that I can memorize quickly and don't have to think about too much while I'm watching tv or other things...like the races.

You are right too about how the census takers wrote.  They spelled things the way they heard them so if someone had an accent it really got garbled.  There wasn't much clarification on how to spell.  My mother's family name got changed from LeSuer to Leasure to Lasher through the years.

The handwriting is very difficult on some of the census records. Especially if they had the flowing cursive handwritting.  S looked life F for instance.

If you are interested in transcribing you can search for Family Search indexing and it should walk you through the steps.  You have to download their program which will allow you to download the batches.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Julie,

I will take some pictures of the before and after.

I went to the flea market but didn't buy anything.  They did have a lot of vendors there selling produce and plants pretty cheap so I'll have to go back there again.

I fell to sleep on the couch around 8 and overslept until 5:30 this morning.   I don't know what's wrong with me.  I'm just exhausted all the time.  I really need the spring break!

Later.

Kim
