This topic is 98 pages long... so it must be popular!

I'm Vic... 48 yo, retired after 27 years in the US Air Force, divorced but engaged, 3 kids, lived all over the world but grew up in and ended back up in Iowa, have a ferrett and cat driving me crazy, like music, enjoy movies, love travel.  Take care...

It's great to see you again!  Thank you very much for the service you gave to our country/citizens - we can never thank our Military enough for what they/you do.  Congrats on your engagement!  Do you have a date set yet?  Having a ferret sounds really neat, but I hear they are very busy, lol!!!  Thanks for stopping in - hope to see you again!  :)

Hi Kim,

Hope there wasn't much damage done from the storms there.  We're supposed to have more today, but so far they've held back or moved slightly around the side of us.  There is thunder in the air, though, and totally cloud cover.

I like your idea of your edible garden, including bringing it inside during the winter.  I also can't wait to see your project with the neon colored kart tires with flowers growing in them.  That should be really neat and unique!

I'm glad the kittens are getting on pretty well.  Yay!  Transition to the "real" cat food!  I'm sure they'll love it and be full, too.

I hope Jess and Amya have a nice visit with their aunt.  Hope you and Bob enjoyed your day doing the things you wanted to.  I'm glad school is done so you can have a nice break right now.  I know you are happy it's finally here.

I haven't heard any more from dil's mom.  I probably won't until closer time to the 22nd, even if then.  I'm not going to set my high hopes on this really happening, so I won't be majorly crushed when it doesn't.  If it does, then I'll be pleasantly surprised.  Right?!

I have my 2nd "class" tonight.  All of my work is done and I called my study partner yesterday, so we could ask the certain questions of each other - more to keep us on task and accountable, I'm sure.  There were a lot of assignments - whew!  It's kind of like being in college again, lol.

Not sure what projects yet.  I babysit little fella until the 18th, and then school is out up here.  I'll look at doing some projects then and talk with you about them.  Right now, though, in the mornings, before he comes a little after lunch, I've been getting the housework done.  I've been working in our bedroom, clearing some things that "cluttered" up a couple of spots - and I would like to rearrange it a little bit.

Have a super Wednesday!  ((Hugs)) to you!!

Along the lines of weather, it's really crazy that on Saturday, it was nearly 90. Yesterday, it snowed so much that it accumulated on the lawn. I hope it doesn't mess up local farmers.

Where do you live Springsgardner?  I noticed yesterday that the local farmers have corn growing already.  I don't think they normally get planted this early in the year in PA.  I hope they don't have problems with their crops later.

Julie,

We only had a few limbs down in our yard but there was a bunch of flooding and hail damage close by.  We've had several storms today and lots and lots of rain though.  How are your storms doing today?

I started the kart tires but it is slow going with the rain and humidity.  I posted a picture in progress on FB.

Jess has been posting lots of pictures of Amya in the pool and one at the beach so it looks like they are having fun.

I don't want to see you crushed again either.  I already don't like those people and if they set you up for another crash I'm really going to be upset!

What did your assignments consist of for your classes?  I'm glad you have a study partner.  It's a good thing to have someone to bounce ideas off of.

I hope you don't wear yourself out babysitting.  I know you love that little guy but you are probably pushing yourself more than you should.  At least you'll be done with watching him by the time you have your tests and your next shots.  I hear you about cleaning and organizing.  I have plans too but the way things are going I fear I won't get as much done as I want.

Fixing dinner, kittens are underfoot and there is a tire on the kitchen table surrounding by several bottles of paint and brushes so I have to run.  Have to google a recipe I want to fix with mixed vegetables and corn muffin mix too.  Want to stop by for supper?

See ya later girlie.

Kim,

Dinner sounds great!  I'll hop, skip, and jump through this screen and be right over, lol!

We were both writing on here at the same time, lol!  Great minds think alike, right?!

Sorry about your storms.  We're having them now and through quite a bit of tonight, with thunder, and possible pea-sized hail.  I'm trying to hurry and get things done on here with everything while it's quieter for a few minutes.

I'll check out your kart tire progress on FB.  I'm hoping to have time to get on in there in a few minutes, if the weather holds out.

I'm off tomorrow with the babysitting - he goes for his brain scan and tests.  I'm wiped today and have very little energy - I hate that.

My class is based a lot on how to be your own "observer" when situations happen that trigger your reactions, whether angry, emotional, devastation, sadness, etc.  Coping strategies are taught (eventually) to handle the triggers/reactions differently.  Also coping techniques will be offered for how to deal with the struggles of chronic illnesses.  There are relaxation exercises, too, that are helpful for focusing.  Lessons are taught regarding triggers, clear requests, and promises (following through with and/or having to revoke.)  Also, seeing how we are affected by our history, past, traditions, and culture.  A lot of what happens in the past (whether bad or good) influences many of the reactions of triggers in today.  Then there are assessments and assertions, moods, suffering, and completion conversations.  Overall, it a health improvement program to help with situations that trigger situational depression, worsening of chronic illnesses, stress, and overall quality of health.

I'm glad Amya's having fun, just hope she's got that sun protection on!!  I was always a fanatic with all 3 of mine, although my older one rebelled on it and tanned nicely, while my other 2 were very fair, like me, and needed all the protection they could get.

I can picture those kittens underfoot, lol!  They're so cute!

See you tomorrow!

~ Julie ~  :)

Hello! I'm an 18 year old that lives in North Carolina. I was thinking about starting a blog of my own since my friend did (his is: rebirthofthefashionisto.com) but I haven't yet. I also am quite frugal but my friends call me cheap (hahaha!!).  However, I am good at saving money and finding great deals on clothes and other things.  ;) I will attend UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall but I'm not really sure about my major--it might be business, psychology, or journalism. I wish to travel in the future, too. Well, I'll stop here because I could ramble on forever.  ;D

For such a young one you sound like you have it together!  I've always told my kids it isn't how much you earn that makes the difference, it's how much you save.  Good for you for going to school this fall.  You can always pick your major once you have a feel for what you are truly interested in the most.

Feel free to ramble on in this blog anytime you want.  That's what it's here for.

Kim

Julie,

What happened to you?  There is only a bit of ham left over from last night but I'm fixing a chicken tonight so you still have time to get here.

I'm glad you are getting a day off.  Take time to relax a bit....yeah right...look who is preaching to the choir.

Your classes sound interesting and certainly something I would enjoy and truly need but not enough time as it is.  Would you believe I'm already working on home work related stuff?  One of the girls gave me her MA review book that we will be using for our certification classes.  I'm making up flash cards on study droid.  There are over 400 questions to each quiz chapter and it looks like there are 8 sections with quizzes.  I only got 112 done yesterday so I have a long way to go!  Study droid is a good program because you can make up the flash cards online and use it from your computer, tablet and phone and even print them out.  I'm working on the tires, doing the 1940 census transcriptions, planning on my grand-daughters graduation and party, planting and tending garden, cleaning, kittens, crocheting shawls, yada, yada, yada and this three week break will fly by no doubt.  :BangHead:

Gotta run and get busy with something!  Have a good day today.

Hi and welcome!  Congratulations on your graduation and getting ready to go to college!  You'll decide about your major!  I minored in Psychology so I would better know how to communicate and understand my students (teacher.)  You sound very mature with monies - that's great!  Hope to see you on here some more!!  :)

Hi Kim,

Lol, you had me there a minute about what happened to me!  Until I was smart enough to keep on reading, lol!  Chicken sounds good, too!  This screen won't cooperate, though!

Little fella's tests were great today.  There is no drainage and everything looks fine - so he won't have to go back until October.  His parents are greatly relieved!  I'm glad he's doing fine.

You are surely keeping busy!  The droid program sounds beneficial for you.  That's good you are working ahead on your certification classes.  I hope you get those down pat and ace those when it's time.

You are mixing school, housework, hobbies, and playtime very well, my friend!  Good balance there.  Your first tire you showed you are painting is looking good.  How many coats do you think you will have to paint on each?  Those will look sharp when done and set up with your tomatoes and/or other plants.  Oh, and yes, that Eco site looks neat.  I saw your comment about it on FB and went to the page and "Liked" it - don't know why I already didn't.  There are some neat sites out there!

Keep up the good work!  ((Hugs))

Julie  :)

Julie,

Well here is a rundown of yesterday's activities.  Bob and I went to a flea market that is only open on Thursdays.  I don't get to go to it when school is in progress as they open at 6 and close at noon.  A lot of Amish sell their goods there so there are buggies, horses, blue dresses, beards, bonnets and lots of food everywhere.  The English sell too though so you can find just about anything.

I found a wet suit for 10 bucks that would normally cost several hundred dollars.  They lady that owned it used it in their swimming pool as her husband refused to buy a heater and we do live in Pennsylvania.   ;D  I have been wanting one so that I can kayak in colder weather without fear of hypothermia.  I had been looking for used on Ebay but the cheapest I had found was 35-50 and that's without shipping.  We bought several plants too and I got those planted.

The tire you saw on ebay was an eppic fail.  I was trying to cut corners and not spend 4 dollars a can on the neon spray paint.  My theory was I would paint them with white spray paint, 96 cents a can, then hand paint with the acrylic paints in the tread of the tire.  Wrong.  The tread areas were too little in spots for the paint brushes I had on hand, the paint didn't adhere too well to the spray paint and would have taken coat after coat to get the right color and would have taken me days on end to complete.  I ended up slathering the acrylic on with a flat brush.  All in all it was as expensive and more frustrating than if I had just bit the bullet and bought the spray paint.  Lesson learned.  You still get a good planter that will last for years.  It's homemade, you are recycling something that would end up in a landfill and they are just so darn colorful and cute.

They are dry this morning so I'll try to take a picture and post before I leave.  I'm going to visit my son and we are going to go to several yard sales in his area.  He lives about 8 miles from my hometown so I'm hoping to see a couple of old friends for a few minutes too.  I have one lady that was friends with my mom that is still alive and I'd like to stop by and see her.  She was in love with my kids when they were little and hasn't seen my son since he was about 5.

I'm hoping to purchase the plants to put into the tires while I'm out too.  I want to get things that are bright and on the opposite color spectrum from the tire.  Example pink petunias in a green or yellow tire.

Yesterday was just one of those days when everything I tried to do around the house went downhill.  The tires didn't work out the way I planned or expected...I tried to hose the side patio off because the rain washed a bunch of debris from the shingles all over the pavement but the garden hose had sprung a leak and the new one I connected wouldn't reach to the patio.  The sweeper wasn't picking up right and requires attention from Bob when he has time.....By the time I started fixing supper I was worn out and frustrated!   Just one of those days when a girl starts dreaming of running away to a beach somewhere but that's hard to do with two dogs and three cats in your beach bag!

Glad little fella's test came out great.  I'm sure his parents are happy.  There is nothing worse than a sick child.  Now if we can just get you fixed and feeling better!

Gotta run.  It's 5:30 but I have some things to get done before I leave at 8.  I'm taking my babies with me so I have to clean the cat carrier out and gather up supplies for the day.  I left the kitchen in a mess last night too so I have to clean that mess up.

You have a good day and keep those garden/frugal websites coming.  I'm digging them...no pun intended.

I just wanted to say Happy Friday to everyone.  I wasn't online much yesterday.  I went to Richmond (Midlothian, actually) to visit my baby sister, who is 65, in the hospital.  I have done some research over the years and have found that a lot of auto-immune diseases run in our family, and also a lot of unusual diseases and ailments.  I don't know if this is one, but my sister has one kidney much smaller than the other and had two blood vessels  running through the small one.  This was causing her to have high blood pressure, even on four different medications for HBP.   The surgeon did a procedure to (I'm not really sure how this was done) cut the flow of blood in one of the blood vessels.  I think he put a stint in it, but I'm not sure.  She is recovering from the procedure, and I guess the next few days or weeks will tell how well the procedure worked.  I'll check with you guys later.

Hi Juanita,

I hope and pray your sister will keep improving so she can go home where she's more comfortable.  I hope what the drs. are doing helps to straighten things out for her.  How are you doing?  I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Keep us posted about your sister.
