Kinect for Xbox 360
« on: November 13, 2010, 06:18:31 am »
Does anyone have one or has anyone tried it out? We want to get one--I'm just wondering how accurately it tracks your movements. I want to get The Biggest Loser game for it. We had it for the Wii, but it was a pain to do while having to hold a controller! I'm wondering if the Kinect will make it any better...?

Yep. We sold our Wii after only having it for about two months! There just aren't many good games for it.

Imagine driving a car without holding a physical device in your hands, which is what we are told will be the case with Kinect. Such a scenario is rather unnatural and not what Kinect really is. It will be tough for Microsoft to market controller accessories for a technology that claims to get rid of controllers, but, in the end, will require devices to enable a natural experience, such as guns or steering wheels. In many cases, the old Xbox controller is what you will want to use and Kinect’s value may be very limited to some gamers. A minor issue is compatibility that is rather an annoyance than a true sale barrier. If you pair Kinect with an old Xbox 360, you will need an extra power outlet behind your TV for Kinect. Especially in family rooms where there is already a lack of available outlets, this is a sure you-got-to-be-kidding moment.

We picked up the Kinect last night, along with The Biggest Loser and a street fighting game. The fighting game isn't that great, but it's ok. The Biggest Loser is pretty awesome. It even makes a map of your body and tells you what areas you should focus working on! I was definitely sweating!

This is kind of creepy:
http://www.newsfactor.com/news//story.xhtml?story_id=032003WT9V7K&full_skip=1

What gets me is: why would the VP say it offers an interesting opportunity for advertising, and then have Microsoft claim that they wouldn't use it for advertising....makes me not want to buy one until I know for sure lol

I don't play video games naked or anything like that, so I guess I don't care... If they enjoy watching me work out with The Biggest Loser game--that's great! I guess if you're really worried about it, you could cover up the Kinect when it's not in use. However, if YOU are one of those people who likes to play 360 in the nude... well, you're out of luck!  ;D

Kinect alone is $149, but I know they sell the new Xbox systems with them (included) as well. It might be cheaper to go that way.
