I definitely think it should be 50/50. If only one partner is working, the other partner should "run" the house by keeping it clean, taking care of the kids, etc.. I think both partners should work on the family's budget, though.

I'm not sure what you mean, either, but a partnership or marriage should be just that - a partnership. Not that I'm an expert, but I have been married 48 years.  :)

I beg to differ. . . .lol. . . .if you've been married 48 years - you're DEFINITELY an expert.  I've only been married 11yrs and it takes an extreme amount of patience, tongue-biting, endurance, understanding, etc. to make it through the times when your mate is tempting fate. . . .if you've been married 48yrs. you've learned some secrets I'm sure we all could use!!!! Kudos.

When a man is older than you they get really jealous. And try to run everything in the house and can't do it if you let them. Everything would be all messed up.  Married 28 years. :peace:

I appreciate your kind words - but I stand by my statement that a marriage "should" be a partnership.  I agree it most often is not.  I was lucky enough to marry someone with whom I had a lot in common and our personalities are so much alike.  Opposites may make for some interesting times, but when you understand each other, it is so much easier.  Also, in most marriages (even the best ones), both partners end up biting their tongues to keep the peace at certain times.  Patience is very important.  And one more thing - communication, communication, communication.

a marriage or a relationship is a work in progress at all times. I was married 19 years and we split everything 50/50.

It has been said that opposites attract, but in our case, I think one of the reasons my husband and I have been together for so long is that we are a lot alike.  We are both low-key and don't like fighting.  The down side is that once in a while something might go unsaid and will boil beneath the surface.  Then we may not speak for a while and then it takes some effort to find out what the real problem is.  Patience is a real key.
