IP address
« on: March 29, 2008, 04:57:24 pm »
When trying to sign-up on other GPT sites and things like that I'm getting a message that says someone with my IP address has already signed up... why would that be?  No one else uses my computer or internet hook up.

It is quite possible that you have been hacked and that hacker is using your IP numbers. I would contact my ISP and see if they can change your IP numbers.  However if you are using DSL then your NIC will still be the same unless you take that out and get a new one.

If this was too advanced of an answer for you let me know and I will break it down in smaller lingo.

OK to break it down a bit smaller

ISP = your Internet Service Provider  ( the people you pay to be online)

NIC = Network Interface Card.  This is were you plug your DSL line in to your computer.

I.P. Address is what is provided by your ISP.  This is what Identifies your computers to other computers.

By calling your ISP (Internet Service Provider) they may be able to change the IP address they gave you.

If this isn't small enough let me know

it can be as jaz suggested, but i suspect something alittle more simple than someone hacking anything.

i.p.'s are often SHARED according whatever i.s.p. is used... for example, AOL is uses this shared system.... and theyre not the only i.s.p. to do this.

an admin on another site that i go to has a funny story to where he attempted an i.p. ban on a member.... AND BANNED ALL OF BELGIUM!

there is a process to getting a static i.p. (to where your i.p. isnt shared) but i never took the time to understand the process, because frankly, i dont care.

Some sites can not tell the difference between users who use ISPs with a recycling IP system, such as AOL. Here at FusionCash we can tell the difference between users no matter what IPs you use, so there is never any surprises for you.

If you have AOL, this is pretty common.
