Gun Control
« on: January 14, 2011, 06:29:19 pm »
In light of the recent events and senseless killings, including a 9 year old lil girl, how do you feel about REAL gun control?  Has it changed your feelings at all?  Although this is been touted so highly in the media, there are millions that lose thier lives in these senseless killings that don't have flag draped coffins, that go unnoticed.   Are we so desesitized that we just don't care anymore?  This happens every hour, of every day, on millions of street corners and in peoples homes.  We are supposedly a "God Fearing" country, but allow people like the NRA to makes us feel we've "lost our rights" if we really attempt to get a handle on gun control.  As long as any idiot can go out a buy a gun, this will continue to happen....It's not and black or white issue, it's not a rich or poor issue.  We are living in a state of Fear from our own countrymen, allowed to be "terrorists"....preying on each other, Husband's skilling their wives, Kids having to be put through a metal detector so we can make sure they aren't carrying a gun or other weapons into school.  When will this end....what has to happen to make this all end in our country?  I'd love to hear your genuine thoughts on this.  Thanks.   :peace:

We have the right to bear arms.  Gun control won't stop people from getting guns, any more than a drug addict has no trouble finding drugs to buy.  If we have gun control, the only people that will have guns are the Gov't. and the bad guys anyway.  Will gun control stop them from obtaining guns?  No.

Governmental control over our right to own firearms just gives Washington that much more control over our lives.  If someone wants to kill someone, do you think a lack of owning a gun will stop them...not hardly.

Some type of reasonable gun control is definitely needed. Do you really need to be able to buy a submachine gun? No, didn't think so.

In other words....no there should be no change and we should all have guns, cause it's our right.....that "right" was written when we were a fledgling country.   But hey, if that's within your belief structure, it's on you.
OK, Do you have any suggestions, beyond gun control, that is going to stop our own country men from killing thier own, wives, kids, strangers....what makes it all stop?  How do we stop ourselves from killing each other of?  How do we stop living fear that some disgruntled ex-employee will show up at a meeting you're attending and decide to take pot shots at you cause you once looked him the wrong way.  How do we keep our kids safe?  Why must we have metal detector at the frount of every school door in America?  We worry about other countries, and we have real safeguards for our own citizens

I am in Southern California and this is a serious issue about guns.  I think if we ban them that people will just resort to whatever is available (knives, etc.)  so there just needs to be harder sentences for crime.  That might help.

I HOPE AND PRAY THE DAY NEVER COMES TO AMERICA THAT WE GIVE UP OR ALLOW OUR RIGHTS TO BEAR ARMS IN THIS COUNTRY. IT WILL BE A VERY SAD DAY. THE NEW WORLD ORDER WILL CERTAINLY TAKE OVER AMERICA AND ENSLAVE US WITH THEIR ONE WORLD GOVERMENT AGENDA.

I grew up around guns.  I think if they take away that right what other rights will be next.  Guns are not the problem it is some of idiots that are allowed to purchase them.

Agree with this statement.  Controlling guns, controlling knives....someone wants you dead...your dead.

I agree that if we ban guns people will resort to whatever else, but it couldn't hurt to put some more laws out on what kind of guns we can have and who can have a gun. Jaymz is right, you do not need a submachine gun, and surely there are people who own guns who really just shouldn't have them.

I don't think we should be able to carry guns around. Nope, but think about it, this dude was crazy, a crazy person with a gun is going to get one. So if a good person has a gun he has a chance to stop him, if not there is no defense, this guy would of got a gun underground if he would of murdered he would of broken laws to get what he needed. Look how drugs are illegal, ummmm, millions of people are being killed by them everyday. It doesn't make difference if someone wants something bad enough, there is a way to get it.

I think if more people at the event were carrying a firearm not as many people would have died because they would have possibly been able to stop the mad man.  On another note, this is not really about gun control.  This is about people who were around him and close to him (i.e. parents, siblings, friends, school faculty) not getting him the help he needed.  Why didn't the parents have him pyschologically evaluated.  I'm sure there were signs.  He posted videos and was quite explicit in his poetry.  This is an example of why parents need to be involved in their childrens lives no matter how old they are.  We need to stop feeling sorry for people and start acting to help them.

Gun restrictions only keep firearms out of law abiding citizens hands.
Take for example Chicago and DC and NYC. Strictest gun laws in the country, yet highest amounts of gun related crime.

If you think adding more gun laws will help things you're completely wrong.
