Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day
What an amazing point in history. I have enjoyed seeing my son learn about the "I have a Dream" speech this past week in his daycare -- truly amazing.

Well...off to enjoy my day off.

How come only government jobs and schools get today off? This should be a day where everyone gets a break. Atleast half the day off or something :dontknow:

Yay for a day off! :]

Martin Luther King Junior was cool and all, but why is he the only one that gets a day? Rosa Parks doesn't get a day, and there are so many people who got shot or arrested or whatever else defending their rights. Maybe we should have a more general day. But then the name would probably be a mouthful.. Hm..

@beat: Not just government jobs. For jobs at stores and stuff they have to keep them open because people still want to go out today. And for jobs in factories, it's much more efficient for factories to always stay running instead of shutting down for holidays.

federal holidays are often observed by financial institutions as well as the various government agencies.
I am not sure why other people don't have a day to celebrate their accomplishments.... but there would be a lot of people deserving of it.

I am happy that it is a holiday.  ;D  This day should be for everyone!  It took a long time for this day to be a major holiday and everyone should be able to take this day off.  :peace:  :peace:  :peace:
