Nursing
« on: February 02, 2011, 06:06:10 am »
So I haven't had to nurse a child since my 2 1/2 year old and I have to admit I forgot what it's like.  I will be home with the baby 10 weeks after she is born, so I'm concerned about when I return to work.  I plan on working short 4 hours shifts so I don't have to pump -how do you think this plan will work out?  If I get a new job (since I'll be graduated from college when I go back to work) I'm wondering if I could find the nearest day car center to my work and nurse on my lunch hour, then immediately after work.  What do you think?

I work four hour shifts 4 times a week and have a four hour college class once a week. I nurse my 4 1/2 month old son. I just pump when I get home from work, sometimes in the mornings, and occasionally throughout the day.. It's really not a big deal - I recommend you have someone watch the kiddos while you pump though!

no matter how close the day care you will need to arrange the schedule of feeding with both the day care AND your job.
I pumped every 3-4 hours when I went back to work -- I didn't have a problem at all.
I think at about 7-8 weeks at home you should try to introduce the bottle a couple of times a day so that you know if he/she will take the bottle.  Then you know that the baby will be ok while you are at work.  Nursing 1x during the day is not likely to be enough - so you still need to wean to a bottle.  Pumping is great -- for you and teh baby.

Good luck

I think it will work out good.  I didn't have a job when my kids were babies, it seemed like all I did was nurse.  I believe it's the best way to go, but I don't miss it.

nursing is good for the baby so please do it. i think to many people are just to selfish to go through the pain. its well worth the pain to know your baby has a good immune system start in this world today. be sure you realize what you eat matters. if the child gets colic and cries you got to purify your diet. Even though my daughter ripped the skin of my nipple I kept on feeding her cause she needed that immune system booost. alll kids do. I vote for go for the colostrum. do the right thing.
