does you child talk their self
« on: February 17, 2011, 12:49:03 pm »
I have a very young child and while she is playing she is always talking to her self. I really don't remember talking to my self a child. :)

Is she an only child? It may be that she is just lonely or she may have a very good imagination and has a pretend friend. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. Just keep an ear out for what she is talking about and use your own judgment rather you need to intervene or not.

I don't have any children but I am quite young still... and act even younger lol. I remember having lots of imaginary friends when I was little (but my Best imaginary friend's name was Jenny) and I remember my mom asking me why I was always talking to myself. It is completely normal for kids to use their imaginations like that.

No but my spouse does and I heard he has had that little habit since childhood. When I make him mad he will go in the kitchen and I just shake my head as he complains and has a whole conversation with himself. :dontknow:

yes, my daughter does. She's 18 and it has decreased significantly as she got older. I still catch her doing it once & a while.

I think that's totally normal. When I was little, I would pretend I was talking to other people and my grandmother thought I was talking to myself but I was just playing a game and pretending there were other people there....I knew they weren't really there! ;D

No, but, since I live alone, I sometimes talk to myself.

My son talks to himself when he is playing. He could have a pretend friend or he could just be pretending that other people are there, I'm not sure but I'm not too worried about it. He's little still and I sometimes talk to myself too. I don't have conversations but I make comments especially if I am looking for something. LOL

I don't have any kids of my own but when I was about 4 or 5 years old I remember talking to myself while I was playing with my toys. I was an only child for 6 years, so imagine the boredom. lol!

Before I had my younger brother to talk to, I always talked to myself as a child. Sometimes when I'm alone I talk to myself.
