My two year old is breaking all the electronics
« on: February 20, 2011, 01:18:41 pm »
MY two year old is in his terrible two's stage. When he gets angry he will knock down the dvd player andthe game systems. If my phone is charging and he happens to be in the middle of a tantrum he will pick it up and throw it.Now it cuts on and off when bumped. He has broken my playsation,a speaker, a cellphone my radio and today it's the xbox 360.I was right in the middle of a movie. My boyfriend wants to have more kids but we got two already and a dog.I love my kids but I feel like I got enough on my plate with being the stay at home parent and barely ever getting out the house.

Can you put up everything so he can't reach it?

my son is at this stage also.
I don't put the things up because I think he should actually learn to just not mess with them.
What has been working for me is just making him sit in the corner of the room for 2 minutes. When his time is up I tell him why I put him there. Its a slow process, but it seems to be working.

I think you should teach him to know that what he did is wrong.  So he don't do that again.  Maybe some timeout for him to learn that to not mess with those thing.

Wow that kid needs some discipline. Hopefully he doesn't get violent towards people.

My nephews when threw that and the only thing that worked was not time out that is a joke.  A good old fashioned tail wippen is what stopped that.  There is a difference in a spanking and a beating and people have seemed to get those confused.  If you think back to your child hood did you do anything again after you got your rear end wiped for messing up like that.

I see more and more parents letting the kids decide what they are going and not going to do.  The first time the child throws a fit and stops his/her feet and says NO and gets away with it then you have lost the battle.  You have to show them that your the parent and they are the child so they get a hand slapped and told no they cannot play with that and if they continue to try to do it then its a real wippen and put in a corner or to bed.  Then when they are ready to be nice they will try to make up for it.  No body likes to get a spanking or anything like that but sometimes it is the only thing that works.  Talking and not yelling at them.  Just my opinion.  Have a great day.

I'm thinking timeouts should fix that. You can get some tips from watching Supernanny. :)
Definitely don't have more kids when you have your hands full, as you said you want more freedom you would end up resenting them for not being able to go out.

My daughter is two, and she definitely has her terrible two moments, but they seem more far and in between lately.  The worst usually happens when she gets mad, lies down on the floor and kicks and screams.  At that point, I will ignore her because she knows that Mommy won't negotiate with temper tantrums.  When she calms down, then we will talk about why she was upset.  Its unnerving, but I even take this stance out in public with a straight face and she usually saves the antics for home or for being somewhere where they will work for her, like grandma's and grandpa's.

We actually taught her how to use the xbox 360 in how to put in a movie and we usually keep some kind of cartoon running in the background when we do things with her.  I let her talk on my cell phone when my parents or in laws call, so she usually brings the cell phone straight to me when it lands in her hands.  She gets to go into the kitchen with me to help cook (I measure ingredients out in small bowls and she gets to pour them into the bigger recipe), do laundry, and do dishes.  I find the more that I find ways to involve her in what I'm doing, the less destructive or frustrated she might get.

Wow, Thats great that she is able to do all that. I'm working with my son. He's pretty good with cell phones, but he still loves to turn on and off the 360. Its touch sensor so its really easy for him to do.
