Nigerian 419 scam???

In case you can't read the letter- here's the summary:

We somehow obtained your name and address and probably other private info about you and are sending you this fake check.  We would like for you to deposit it and send us back only $3320.00.  The rest of the check will be your reimbursement for thinking that we really are interested in hiring you so we decided to just send you this big irresistable check.  The catch is that you have to send us back the required funds of $3320.00 within 48 hours.  This way your bank won't have time to tell you that you are a dumb-*bleep* for depositing a fake check.   Then you will be broke and pissed and we will be laughing our asses off.

Well, they can kiss mine.  :bootyshake:

I got one of those a couple of years ago. I actually took it in my bank (not to cash it-just to show it to them so they can be alert that it is out there) and they had already gotten a couple of others that same week that actually did try to cash it.

My daughter recently received 3 Moneygrams for over 900 each.  She went to the bank and they said it was a scam.  Maybe she should have tried cashing them first.  They really looked real.  The thinks people do to get your money.

Most banks will chage a fee if you deposit a check that bounces. Maybe you could take them to a check cashing service that takes a cut out of the checks that you are cashing but I think most of those would be somehow verifying funds first. The last place I worked we would scan the checks for approval and the funds would clear the same day and the checks don't ever have to go to the bank. Having your bank do it though I think would be a losing proposition.  :'(

I recently applied online to be a secret shopper. It sounded legit so i accepted my first job which they described to me. I rec'd the check in the mail and that is when I knew it was a scam. First of all the check looked fake and they told me i would be paid by money order not check.
The check was for $2900 and i was only to keep 130 of it. yeah right. if they are investigating western union money transfers why would they need to use that much money. COME ON i am not stupid.

i have the check and was told to turn it over to my local police dept.

If they are gonna try and scam people out of money using fake checks they could at least find someone who knows how to write a check. The amount was not written in numbers.

I love how it says "Secrete Shopper" instead of "Secret Shopper"

I also received one of those but the company that sent mine was PRO UNLIMITED they are also a scam company. I called them when I received the check and when I finally was able to speak to a real person I promptly turned all the information I had on them (addresses, phone numbers etc.) over to the bank that the check was supposedly drafted from. If a job is legitimate they pay you, you don't pay them that was what raised a red flag for me. I feel sorry for all of you that got scammed but in this world you don't get something for nothing. If it looks too good to be true it most likely is. :dontknow:

I got a check similar to that, too. This happened about a year ago. Found it was a SCAM!!! But I had a friend who received the same check I did, she went way out of town and cashed it. $3,800 in her pocket. She got hers before me, though. Wish I would have taken the same step she did. But truly it's all a scam!!!

if u read closely theres a scam in there

my dads gf got the similar thing in the mail

it wasnt about shoppers and getting paid for surveys

she did get a check from a bank that she thought was hers

and after reading it over and over for awhile we discovered that if say u cash the check

then of course u will have to pay them bak with probably intrists and other stuff

so u could really tear it up!

its a total scam
