Does it annoy you when.....

you come across a misspelled word, incorrect punctuation, or incorrect grammar in a newspaper or magazine article or in a novel?

It has got to be one of the WORST pet peeves that I have!!     

I'm sure that there are some things that totally escape my notice. The recurring email with only the first and last letter in place and everything else scrambled gives away that fact about everyone but I would hope if you were publishing something you would at least proofread your work AND most of them (if not all) have an editor!!! I'm thinking that I would really enjoy being a proofread or editor. I may not be the best editor in the business BUT I wouldn't have let an article slip by my desk that quoted President Bush as saying the after the Sept 11th attacks he wanted Obama "dead or alive." 

I was completely unaware that Barack Obama was the cause of the 9/11 attacks. So nice to be told now that he is our President.  And get this.. there was MORE THAN 1 place in the article that had the Osama/Obama typo.

I'm more annoyed by real-life people who don't know how to spell or type...like people in forums.  Makes me question their intelligence.

As long as it isn't textspeak I'm pretty lenient on that. Especially the grammar. I know that my grammar is probably atrocious when I post on the forums and things because I'm trying to showcase what my thought process looks like as well. For better understanding I guess. But like you I pretty much assume that they didn't spend much time or invest much energy in school and I tend to put less stock in their opinion. Sad but true. If you can't articulate clearly (or write clearly) how can I be sure that you really researched or thought about what you wanted to say. Although it does sound kind of snobby it is how I feel.

Bahahahaha!!!! Now that's just funny! I've come across people, time & time again, who do the exact same thing. If you're going to take the time to insult someone/something, at least do so in a manner where it's legible. I mean, you look bad enough bashing someone over something petty, but you only make yourself look worse off when it can't even be done 'properly'. Whenever I see things like that, I laugh and then ignore them, they're not worth my time.

As for the subject of this thread....
It does bother me when I'm reading something of importance (newspaper, books, etc.) and there are grammatical errors or misspellings. After all, that's their job so aren't they supposed to be good at it? Otherwise, what's the point?

I have a problem with just plain mean sarcastic people behind the keyboards. It amazes me how people can curse and blast a stranger on a forum/chat site. They have no idea what mandates good manners or proper decorum. I have no problem with people misspelling or bad grammar on a forum if you can at least follow it. However, sometimes the spelling and grammar is so bad, you can't make out what they are trying to say.

People who put out copy and make a living at it should "proof" their work or let someone else do it if they are too lazy. It reflects badly on the publication that prints their work. There's no excuse for it. They're too lazy to use spell check or that Dictionary sitting on the shelf.

it really depends on what the mistake is and how often it occurs. there's a difference in a slight misspelling and just a plain dumbass spelling. i don't like when people have to be so petty as to point out what is an obvious spelling slip.

Depends on what the mistake is and where it is.  If it's in a major newspaper or news article, someone didn't do their job editing which bothers me.  But in most cases, it's not a big deal.  Everyone typos, everyone makes mistakes.

I dont notice much grammar and punctuation mistakes but i certainly would have seen that. i dont think it would have made me very happy.
