13 yr old w/ lukemia
« on: May 05, 2011, 09:28:32 pm »
so recently one of our daycare kids' sister(13) had gone to the dr for side pains. come to find out she has lukemia and has had for some time now. she has had bone marrow procedures done, many doses of chemo. and blood transfusions. poor girl camt be around fumes from cleaning products or dust so someone has to clean their house while they are in madison on a weekly basis now. poor kid feels like she cant do anything her self anymore. she hasnt been to school since late march. a tutor has been coming to see her to get her caught up with school work. she's just now starting to lose her hair due to the chemo. poor girl loves her hair too. i feel bad for her and her mom coz she is a single mom raising 3 kids(her being the oldest) from a deadbeat father(which has not seen the 13yr old since hearing she was sick, but it's ok ..she doesnt want ne thing to do with him anyways). the parent isnt working now coz she is on leave because of her daughter being sick and needs constant care. so, she has applied for food assistance from our state and other things she can get to help out her family. we're trying to help ne way possible, mowing her lawn for free, having benefits, having the younger kids over night for free, and cleaning her house. man everytime i think about her now ..i get tears in my eyes. it's just so sad. she's lost 10 pounds and she looks so different. they say shes making improvement though so thats good but no major changes yet.

They are doing wonderful things, these days, for people with cancer/leukemia.  My wife celebrates her fifth year in remission from breast cance in June.  I have a friend who was given 15 days to live...seven years ago.  He has gone on to competing in "World's Strongest Man" competitions.  I have a 13 year old...now 14 year old daughter...this story struck me hard...because I love my children sooo much.  Good Luck to your friend.

so there are signs she's in remission. meaning she's getting better and the cancer hasnt gone ne where else. i know one thing that is wonderful, she doesnt need radiation. she has become diabetic though so she had insulin but now her blood sugar isnt so high ne more so they just test her blood just in case she does need her insulin. she has lost 10 pounds. i probably mentioned that already but she losing her hair now too. poor girl. as for her father though, he's not allowed to see her or her brothers because of how he is. didnt even come up to see her, or hasnt seen her since he has known about her case.  :bs:  and the 13 yr old told her mother to tell her father that she had died. this is how she feels about him.

so recently she had some sort of tube put inside of her and it was enternally leaking so she had to have surgery to correct it. i seen her 2 sundays ago while attending a cook out. her hair has thinned and she wears a bandana on her head now. she looks pale and her cheeks are chubbier. she seems to be doing good though, but much more treatments to go.

yeah she has gone back to school and got herself a wig but she says it's too itchy to wear so most of the time she doesnt wear it. took them forever to find her shade of hair.
