thats an automatic red flag to me. it makes me think that he's already got a wife/fiancee/girlfriend somewhere else and is just playing you. the only acceptable reason i can think of for keeping an engagement a secret is if there are people within the families that disapprove but even then keeping it a secret isn't going to change that, its just going to prolong the inevitable situation

Yikes! The only way I could justify it is if maybe he wanted to surprise his family or he hadn't told them yet and doesn't want them to find out the roundabout way and in which case he should've told them already!

The is very few reasons to not want to announce it to everyone.  I would rethink this with this man.  Because he could be hiding something from you or someone else.  Please check him out and make sure he is not hiding something.

If he is in love with you he will be glad to tell everyone about your love.   Maybe you are the mistress that he wants to hide.  Look at this as if you are about to jump in a pot of boiling water.   I am telling you not to jump in, but it is up to you.

@JerseyGirl4Life RUN RUN as fast as you can this guy is not worth your time or effort Love is not to be hidden or be shameful Everyone should rejoice and be happy My husband did the right thing before we were engaged he asked my father if he could marry me I know a little old fashioned but the right way to handle a proposal at least that is my opinion. Soooooo maybe you should rethink this proposal...... :-
