I have noticed several thing are smaller, then they use to be.  Your p;astic bottles have an indention that goes up inside wear you get less liquid.

I'm trying to stock up when there are sales on canned foods. The dollar store is great for canned food, and many other things. I'm shopping there more and more. The paper products don't seem to be going up that much, but food goes up weekly, and sometimes daily. Buying enough food for a family of 4 can break the budget. Eating healthy can really be high if you buy organic which is what I try to do. Cooking at home helps a lot without buying a lot of processed foods.

I'm going to start purchasing my staples in bulk (rice, beans, flour, etc), and start vacuum packing them in smaller portion sizes. During harvest, I'll buy stuff like green beans by the crate, blanch them, and vacuum pack them for the freezer. Trying to lay up at least a year's worth of food. If I don't need it, then that will be okay, but if I do need it and don't have it.....will be worse. You can buy dried foods in bulk also. Every little bit helps.

The price of food today is outrageous! It is outrageous because of the high cost of transportation. Look how much we are paying at the pump for a gallon of fuel. I use the local food bank: free food. Whatever I do not get at the local food bank, I buy at the local store.

I try to buy the sale items and plan my meals accordingly for the week.  I also stock up when I find a good deal on canned items or frozen vegetables.  I buy the rotisserie chickens at sam's and for $4.99 I have at least two meals.  I made homemade chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles on Wednesday and yesterday I had a pasta casserole with the remaining chicken.  I use coupons when I can but it seems I never find any for what I really need.

It is definitely a challenge to keep the food budget in line. I watch sales and use coupons. I try to stock up when anything is a good deal. After the last good deal on toilet paper, I have enough for about 4 months. My kids think I'm nuts. Not their money though.  ;D

I do try to use coupons or buy big amounts when things are on sale.

:o have you seen the meat dept. Last time I was at the store I couldn't find a $5-8 package like I used to buy before, now $12 and up  ::) maybe someone up there wants us to become vegetarians to better our health.
