My kids are constantly online.  they were always good in school but now their average has gone down.  studies are the last thing on their mind.  i see it with all their friends.  all the smart kids are doing just OK in school.  its scary to see the next generation go down this way.

I think it's OK in moderation. I good luck trying to shield kids from it too. I know people don't want their kids going around thinking what they see is alright for them to do too, but that's why you instill good values in them. Religion helps with that.

I think it is ok as long as they aren't allowed on for to long. Their is not anything wrong with a kid being on the internet for an hour as long as they study for just as long.

And who's 'job' as a parent is it to stop this, your's or society's? You've never heard of taking a computer, or anything else, away from them if it is being abused and interfering with more important things?

I think it is far scarier to see how the next generation is being raised. You don't want to set boundaries, then you get what you get, period.

Being online isn't a cause.  There are so many great resources online, and if it gets kids reading instead of sitting in front of the tv, then it is a good thing.  The thing that is really harming today's children is the lack of boundaries, as Jdog said.  My daughter, for example, will visit activity village with me and we watch videos on youtube together (she'll be 3 in September), and since I'm doing this with her, it is helping her.  But she knows when it is time to be on the computer, and when it is time to help mommy cook, or do the dishes, or pick up her toys.  She doesn't run rampant without structure.  Too many kids these days do...for that matter, too many kids these days were not taught to say thank you or please or to share.  That is where the issue lies.  The blame game, where everything is blamed on being online, watching tv, listening to music, is irresponsible, and is a cop out for parents who don't want to be an active participant in the lives of their children.
