Over charged by the Mechanic
« on: June 27, 2011, 08:14:20 pm »
:sad1: I had to get my motor mount replaced and i did go around town to get a estimate on cost for repair. I had no choice but to get my car repaired at Goodyear Gemini because no one else could do it that same day. And i got taken advantage of with those guys!...just dont still believe that ppl and shops rip  customers off$$$$!

Auto repair shops are notorious for trying to rip you off. I took my car in for something minor, and they told me that after looking over my car, multiple things needed to be done... totaling $200. HA. After taking it to my friend, he told me I didn't need any of it. It's sad because they target the older folks and those that don't have a clue about car maintenance >:(

Oh yeah, I got ripped off about $170 at Fast Eddies where I live...I was pissed - I told my fiance he had to go with me next time, he's got more *bleep* than me to tell them no and not believe what they say.

People who prey on others will meet with the forces of kharma.  I used to think that they would suffer through nights of no sleep but sometimes they don't even realize the hurt that they have created. A good car mechanic is so hard to find.  My rule of thumb in finding good ones is to ask them to look at something that I know is in perfect working order.  If they say that I don't need to repair it and they don't come up with something else that needs fixing i feel reasonably certain that I have found the right person.

If you don't know about cars any and prices of parts a mechanic can get you all the time. They can charge you for stuff that's not even broken. it's ridiculous how people can cheat others for self gain. What has this world come to?

Be very careful self-employed mechanics. You should use someone highly recommended.

Yeah, they rip off too many people.  My mom had her car taken in for one thing, and a month later something else would go wrong.  They get that fixed by same people and a month later, a different thing went wrong.  It seems to be like a little more than a coincidence.  Just a good thing that place isn't in business anymore.

I trust my car repair mechanic as he hasn't ever ripped me off.

I think that it takes forever to find a mechanic that you can trust.  My first foray into trusting a mechanic came with an outfit called Big O tires in Colorado.  I know nothing about today's computer driven engines so I have to rely on these guys and I truly believe that they are not betraying my trust.  I have gone in and told them that I thought that I needed a tune up or an oil change.  They have said things like "you don't need an oil change for another one thousand miles" or "you have ten thousand miles to go before you will need a tune up". Most places would have taken advantage of me and charged me for bothe services.

:P I am so sorry that happened to you - I have gotten ripped off so many times in my younger years - now, thank GOD I have two sons that do automotive work on our cars.  In fact they have ended up doing tie rod ends on all three of our vehicles.  I don't even want to think how much that would have cost at a shop and then half the time the shops don't do good work and overcharge you for it.   :BangHead:

i agree they tried to charge me to program a new remote start for my car. The person took less than 5 minutes and the dealer told me it would be 59.95 to pay for his time but since i have had problems with this dealer before he would give to me free.

Alot of mechanics (depending on their place of employment) make commission on the services/upgrades they sell, just like alot of other professions.  Some are honest and some aren't.  Ask your friends, relatives who their mechanic is and try the one(s) they recommend---then let that mechanic know that you are trying them out because they came highly recommended.  (Usually they'll be appreciative for the recommendation and will do their best to make sure you get great service.)

finding a trustworthy mechanic is a blessing.  Like mentioned above, many are just ripoffs.
