Do you have a home veggie garden?
« on: June 30, 2011, 06:58:52 am »
I have had a garden for the past 6 years.I love it. I don't even like buying store bought tomatoes in the winter they just don't have any taste once you've had fresh garden tomatoes.

Nope. I have no yard, cos I live in a condo, but when I get my new home, I intend to have a veggie garden.

I would love to have a home veggie garden but where we live, we dont have a backyard and our patio is only 4 feet by 9 feet.  I miss having fresh veggies...

I would love to have a vegetable garden but it is so hot here and we are in a drought. When I water a lot it root rots.

Depends Audrey, I live in zone 7 but a good rule of thumb is after the last frost. If u get a frost after you've planted just cover the plant so it doesn't harm it. Here its usually around April you can even wait till may. And it really doesn't take long before u get tomatoes.

I would love to but in my neighborhood, I can't even put a planter on the porch without it getting stolen so...a garden isn't happening.   :sad1:  (They stole the yard solar lighted lanterns too!)

Veronica, we had a drought last year and we lost most of our plants.  Good luck with yours maybe next year will be better

I live in California, and there are so many farmer's markets now, there's no reason to plant a garden myself. While I really haven't got the room, a garden would be nice. I remember growing up we had a huge garden every year. I liked to hide in the corn stalks in the cool of the day and just smell the earth. My job after school was to "weed" the garden. This was my job everyday for years. Now, to have a garden means weeding again and that just rubs me the wrong way...lol  I liked going out in it with a salt shaker and picking veggies and eating them. Tomatoes and cucumbers right from the vine, and salted was my dinner most summer days. Corn was also good if it was new right out of the husk. I had no idea at the time that I was eating so healthy and was blessed to do so. We had gardens because we were poor and raising our own food and livestock was out of necessity. Thing is, I ate better then, than I do now, and pay a fortune for groceries today.
