That is by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard.  I have 6 kids and I have to tell you that when we go out to eat the restaurant definitely makes some money.  But hey that is their loss.  I hope they like standing in the unemployment line, at least they won't have to deal with small children there... lol

isn't this age discrimination or something?
i'm not sure how it couldn't be...

however, the restaurant(s) that are doing this are
quiet, upscale/lounge type restaurants anyway,
not restaurants that advertise "family friendly"
atmospheres like TGIfridays and stuff.

somewhat off topic: at my work, i print event
invitations among other things, and "adult reception only"
has been trending as far as wedding invitations go.

control your spawn  :dontknow: i don't know.

Check your stats you people who are saying that restaurants are losing money by banning children 6 and younger. In fact a few restaurants have done this very thing are flourishing because of it. I myself do not like to go to an upscale restaurant with my adult friends, paying high prices for good food, atmosphere, and conversation, all to be ruined because someone cannot control their children's temper tantrums and fits of screaming, crying, yelling, trashing their table, and running around like a bunch of wild horses bothering everyone. I say these restaurants are on the right track, and I will be patronizing them myself.

I no longer allow people to bring their children to my home that have previously been there before and their children proceed to "trash" my home while the parents do nothing to stop them. Children need discipline and if parents are too lazy to teach them good manners, then they need to stay at home. I'm a Minister and will not let a child cry and throw a fit during a church service. They are asked to take the child to the "cry" room for the remainder of the service. The cry room has a speaker and they can still hear the service, but the screaming child is heard by nobody but the dismissed parent. I've been in grocery stores or Wal Mart and there is a screaming kid. I've passed the mom shopping and she is doing nothing to shut the kid up. So the kid continues to scream and cry at the top of their lungs so everyone can be irritated.

It's not the child's fault but the parents. There is no discipline in the home and the children run the parents. Teaching children social manners and just plain how to behave takes effort on the parents part. So many kids are left to themselves with very little interaction with parents, except to be told to leave them alone. I can't tell you how many times I've heard parents tell their kids "not now, I've worked all day. Go play and leave me alone". Why did you even have kids then if you weren't going to follow through with the raising of them in all aspects?

Your title says six and older so I was confused for a minute. I do understand why they do it if it's for a more fancy place and kids running around screaming isn't good for upscale restaurants.

You no what i agree when some people say that people can't control there kids i feel if they could control there kids then this subject would'nt even be happening i also agree that there are some restaurants that are just not for kids and they shoud'nt even be there anyway however i still think it wrong to ban a child.

I would think the only way they could get by doing it legally is making it into a bar otherwise some one could file a discrimination law suit against the restaurant.

I think it was a strategic move. Although they might lose revenue from families with younger children, I believe they might possibly make up for it from older customers. Specifically those who enjoy a more calming dining experience, such as the elderly. Personally, I would be more inclined (on certain occasions) to dine at a place where I know my meal won't be interrupted by a screaming 3-year-old or a perpetually crying baby.

Many restaurants have already......and are putting this into practice. Haven't you read restaurant signs that "they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"?  Same with the non-smoking issue. People have the right to breathe air free of cigarette smoke just like they have the right to enjoy their meal without some screaming kid in the next booth or table disturbing their peace while they eat. Wedding couples are more and more excluding kids from the reception as they run wild and make a mess because their parents are busy drinking, dancing, etc., and not watching them. I for one believe children do not belong at wedding receptions, until they are at least 10 years old, or in the wedding party. The wedding couple has put much thought, and expense for their special day. They have every right to say who is welcome and who is not. I have had parents get upset because they could not bring their kids. Too bad. It's not their day or party.
