How do you think they got rich in the first place? :P They never gave it away. Greed gets the best of some people, like a disease.

Blanket statements like this are seldom accurate. Bill Gates is as super rich as they get and he makes HUGE contributions to help others. That's just one example.

As envious as I am toward the wealthy I can't concur that they are all scrooges.  As stated Bill Gates one of the top 5 richest people in the world is also one of the greatest philanthropists.  Of course he can afford to do this very easily without changing his lifestyle.  Perhaps people who are wealthy, but not rich are the most miserly(200,000 to low millionaire status).  This is of course a blanket statement, but I do side work for several of the aforementioned wealthy(house upkeep, general repairs), and know that they like to pay as little as possible for most things.  Example they have 200,000 in their bank account and yet they shop on craigslist and yard sales.  Come to think of it that is just a smart thing to do.

I dislike the characterization that rich people are greedy and hate to give... Many rich people are extremely generous when it comes to giving. Many of the high-end donors are the super rich. The rich are also the ones that start charitable foundations, especially celebrities that can use their cultural status to give name-recognition to the organization, like the Reeves Foundation for Paralysis Research. One of the largest private charitable organizations is the Gates Foundation established and maintained by Bill Gates and his wife Melinda; the Gates Foundation has an endowment of over $30 billion. In fact Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, two of the wealthiest Americans and indeed in the world, are trying to start a philanthropic pledge of other mogul's to give at least 50% of their net worth to charity over the course of their lifetime or by their death. Sometimes charitable products and promotions are produced by the wealthy and business leaders where the profits go to support a particular charity, such as the song "We Are the World" and its more recent adaptation created for Haiti's earthquake victims. Businesses and the wealthy individuals also contribute much of the support during times of crisis; Heinz had donated about a half-million dollars worth of food-supplies and money to help people hit by Hurricane Katrina. Finally, although it isn't considered a charity in the normal sense of the word, the rich are the ones that produce employment for other people. Either they have the base capital in order to start new businesses, or they have a product or service that because of its demand has grown the company and as a result has made the founder wealthy in the process. In either case, as the company grows, it requires more people to be employed thereby providing a more permanent money-supply for people not as wealthy.

I also think that sometimes it is the poor or less wealthy that are the greedy ones.... They feel that they are entitled to money just for the sole reason that they are alive. They don't put in effort to work or will waste the money they do have on their vices like smoking, drinking, gambling (including the pull tabs), etc. but demand that the wealthy give them money. To me, greed is the selfish taking of money with no regard to how they get the money. So the idea that you are entitled to money just because you exist sounds more greedy than a person that works hard and earns a lot of money from their hard work, ingenuity, or risk taking. Couple that with the amount of charitable giving that the wealthy usually provide, and I'd say that many of the wealthy are more self-less and generous, not selfish and greedy.

They do give to charities, but for tax write offs.  They donate their $$$$$ to make themselves look good while getting a tax deduction on their taxes.

Tax write offs are another myth to get people to vote Democrat, just like the one says the rich don't pay taxes. How can they write off taxes they don't pay?

I disagree with your statement. Like others have said, it is putting all people with money into a category that does NOT fit them all. Super rich does NOT mean greedy either. I know a lot of very wealthy people and none are 'greedy', but they ARE all very smart. Sounds like some jealousy here IMO.

Bambino23, I have a question for you. What the heck is "help someone else pull a 7 pound or something."? If someone besides the OP knows what this is, please jump in and tell me! :confused1:

I think we have people in this forum that agrees that rich people are greedy and some who say they are not.  My opinion is there is greed in the rich and the poor.  No one owes anybody a way of life its something you have to work for.  Yeah some individuals get a head start if they come from money and don't haveto worry about how they are going to pay for things, so they invest their money and learned how to do it so they don't become poor, where as the poor have to work a little harder and learn to cut back they to can be productive in life.   I personally don't want to be wealthy, but yet I don't like being poor either.  I did make good money while I worked but illness got the best of me so I am poor.  Before I considered myself to be middle class.  I think we all have a little greed in us but we all have a little selfless acts in us as well.  I agree that some of the wealthy donate to charities and give up things they don't need, and if they get a tax break for it than great because we benefit from there donations, so all benefit. I watched a program where a family lost everything to flooding and lived in a camper wih like 13 kids and two parents. These kids they adopted and some of them where handicap child that no one wanted  :'( they where fine with finances but due to nature lost everything this company got voliteers to help build them a house and an actress was there to help, she enjoyed it and does it frequently and I call that being selfless, weather they help with money issues or donating there time they are still helping. I choose to believe that we all have this in us even if we can't help finacial we can donate our time.  If we all thought this way this world would be a better place.  I hope I did't step on anyones toes, but I like to think positive about people.

You're just a hater.  Admit it you would trade places with them in a heartbeat.  Just because they're not giving you any of their money you want to hate on them.  Don't hate congratulate.  All rich people aren't greedy and a lot of them give more than you will every make in 10 of your lifetimes.  Just because they don't go on tv advertising how much they've given away doesn't mean they aren't doing good with the money and helping other people out.
