ONLINE COLLEGE or TRADITIONAL COLLEGE
« on: July 22, 2011, 08:11:13 pm »
I've been seeing many ads about online colleges which financial aid is available for those who attend, but after the student graduates many employees will not accept their degrees. Is traditional college the way to go?

I went to a tradtional local college, Norfolk State University and community college, TCC.  At both colleges I took online courses whenever possible as it was easier to fit into my work and family schedule.  At 3 in the morning laying on the couch I could take a test for my class.  If you are hesitant about strictly online colleges you may want to look into traditional universities instead as you will be able to get very similiar online courses there as well.  Your future employer will never know that you took online courses at the traditional university so your safe.

I always take online classes from an accredited university. I really don't like alot of these fly by night online colleges.

I went to a traditional college.  If I had the money to go back to school I would look into both. There are pros and cons to each choice.  I've never taken online courses but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

I went to both, I am going to an online college now, but I made sure it was accredited before attending. Seems that online is easier than traditional college. But that's my opinion.  :peace:

it doesn't really matter which kind of school it is as long as it is accredited an employer will accept it.
the reason why people are reporting they aren't getting jobs is either a) nobody is hiring anyone regardless of schooling or b) they didnt investigate the school before they paid them money to see if they had any accredidation, or c) a combination of those 2 things

the ones that are accredited online are also eligible for federal financial aid, in addition to any financial aid the school might offer you.

So if you decide to go the online route, which honestly is more flexible and a better option if you prefer to work at your own pace, do your research on the school first. The ones that have accreditation always note all of their certifications, and the ones that aren't will make sure not to mention it anywhere on the website (and not provide any real numbers about how many of their "graduates" actually get jobs)

an online school that isn't accreditated and scammed me: Stratford Career Institute  (they also won't refund)

online schools that are accreditated:
WGU
University of Phoenix
Ashford University
Devry University
Walden University
grand canyon university

I don't think it matters. Wheather you go to a college or do your studies on line. My sister in law got her associates degree online. A degree is a degree no matter how you get it.

Im thinking about taking online courses. Ive sat in a cold classroom long enough. I think taking classes online would be easier for me. I can do my own research on my own time.

I don't see the difference in actually going to a college or do it online a degree is a degree.  I got my associates online through the University of Phoniex but I am now disabled so I use to do taxes in my home so I guess it depends what type a degree you are going for.

Be sure also to double check any regional accreditation requirements as well.

For example, when going for an education degree. Some states won't give teacher's licenses to someone who graduated from a school that doesn't have a regional as well as national accreditation. Some of these regional accreditation programs are very strict, so an online school may fail them.

I'd choose traditional college. I dont know, the concept of sitting at home doing classes just doesnt feel like "school" and I bet it'd be a better learning environment at an educational institute
