How much is your time worth? Daily tasks
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:19:57 am »
I thought I'd give the daily tasks another shot this morning, but 30 minutes into it and only 1/3 of the way done I just couldn't bring myself to finish.  The offer pays 24 cents and asks you to write answers to peoples questions, must be 100 characters and at least 2 sentences.  Easy enough and I answered the questions correctly with no grammatical errors, but it just takes too long for me.  I had to look up and answer how to rebuild a 1995 s10 fuel pump and I'm not sure how to answer that in 2 sentences without being rejected for not answering the question. ???  Time is money and I just can't bring myself to work an hour for less than a quarter.  If you have figured out a way to do these tasks in under 30 minutes then I'd love to hear.  I could bring myself to complete the task if it took less than 30 minutes to complete just to say that I did it.  Are there any daily tasks that don't take an extraordinary amount of time to complete?  I really admire the patient stalwartness of those people who have completed any daily task. :notworthy:

There are only a few of them that I will actually do. If you pick one and actually learn the correct way to do it, it becomes really easy. I usually do the "search for terms and record the results" ones. It takes me like 10 minutes to finish because I know what they want. I just type in the words they want and then cut and paste the url links. I'll have to agree. It was rather tedious in the beginning, but got much better after I got the hang of it. Now every time I see one of those I do them and they usually let you do them twice. There are usually .80 or $1.

Thanks for the great info.  I am still a newbie and had seen the daily tasks and thought I would give them a try.  It's good to have feedback from those who have actually succeeded with them.  Now I just need more hours in the day!

I rarely do the daily tasks.  I did a bunch in the beginning, but it just wasn't worth my time.  It always seemed to take too long.  Now, if I could go through them faster, then it just might be worth it for me.

I agree.I've suggested raising the credit for the daily tasks before.Often it's far too much tedious work for less than a dollar's pay.

What I found with the tasks is to periodically try the new ones to see how long it takes me.  I think depending on your background, certain tasks will be easier for some people but the same task harder for someone else.  That's why there is variety.  The "Search for terms" is one of my favorite, along with the "choose the best search result" and "find an image on a website" tasks.  Sometimes they post tasks to format an address - small money, but goes quickly and you can work multiple times.  There's the "judge relevance of 35 search results" - this task can be really long, but I've gotten faster after working it a few times.  For this one, I work it while watching TV at night and do a page during the commercials - that way I get the money but it doesn't feel like I sat there a long time.

By trying them out, you'll find which tasks you can work well, then just keep an eye out for them.  The tasks that take you too long, just pass over them.

Only advice I have is often some of the tasks may have questionable answer keys - particularly with some of the tasks that require internet searches and they've been up for several days.  If that's the case and you get marked "wrong" but you feel your answer is valid - just reply in the task and send feedback via their feedback button.  They know things change over time on such tasks and have been very good with me about resetting my score when they agree the key was out of date.  Sometimes they do have a backlog and I don't hear back until well after the task is over, but you just have to take such things in stride and hope they fix the error the next round.

All in all, I'm a fan of the tasks.  Only issue at the moment is there are a lot of expired tasks on the list that have not disappeared so it's making it really hard to find the open ones.  I heard back on my support ticked from FC saying they've contacted Gambit about correcting this.  Hopefully they'll get on it.  This is the longest I've seen them stuck since I started here last year.

I once did a task on another site. I did one proofreading assignment that kept on going one page after another. I ended up spending more than 60 minutes for 30 cents. I had such a bad experience I've not gone back. But of course I sometimes get do long surveys and disqualify at the end, so I guess I just like the punishment.

I cannot justify doing these anymore. I tried many versions of them. Sadly I think the payment is way to low for the work asked. I struggle to think I would even attempt another without at least $1 in compensation.

Usually they seem pretty tedious for the payout for me personally. There's one I typically do for a couple of cents-but it's easy and doesn't take up much of my day.

I use to  do the daily tasks and I got really good at them, until they wouldn't credit anymore and I couldn't get a resolution. I like to spend my time in a survey instead. Believe it or not sometimes surveys, although just as tedious are shorter to complete.

I've give in the daily tasks a try or two, but decided to stay away from them. I found them to be boring, confusing and time consuming. And not really worth the effort.  :sad1:
