"Fear of serious injury cannot alone justify suppression of free speech and assembly. Men feared witches and burnt women. It is the function of speech to free men from the bondage of irrational fears(such as religious superstitions)."
-- Louis Brandeis

How can this be spamming when it is your choice to open the thread or not?

It's spam-flooding when the thread gets flooded with requoted "verses", even though these on technical on-topic in the off topic forum.
These initial posts constitute the flooding, (not the lesser number of opposing posts).

Oh now, falcon, you're doing just as much "spamming"/"flooding" with your opposing posts (and are "requoted" as well!!). And honestly, why do you care so much that verses get requoted? Is it because you have already "slammed" those verses and need new content to slam?

You mean, spamming and proselytizing religious propanganda which is offensive to others.

The content in this thread is not posted to be offensive....those who are offended take it that way, which is not our fault. If you are offended, then you don't have to frequent the thread....it's your choice right??

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished.  If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.

Or a more reliable translation of Exodus21:20-21

“Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property."

The idea behind this law,of course,is to have a fairness in punishment. If a slave dropped dead two weeks later,no one could say "Well,Henry hit Joe a fortnight ago.It must be murder!" The incidents being most likely unrelated.
But at least Falconer is getting in the spirit of the thread, unlike others I know....

No, the 'lesser number' of responses to the more numerous initial flooding isn't spamming in turn.  That's why they're called responses, (even though fewer in number because not all of the verse-flooding is responded to).

And honestly, why do you care so much that verses get requoted? Is it because you have already "slammed" those verses and need new content to slam?

These repetitious "verses" are available elsewhere, (which is how they're able to be cut & pasted here), so why keep repeating them here unless for the purposes of 'slamming' others with offensive religious propagandizing proselytization?

The content in this thread is not posted to be offensive....those who are offended take it that way, which is not our fault. If you are offended, then you don't have to frequent the thread....it's your choice right??

The viewpoints opposing such religious proselytization are not posted to be offensive, those who are offended take it that way, (which is the "fault" of the religious adherent offending others in the first place with repetitous "verses").  If the religious adherents are offended by views opposing thier faith-blindness, they can use the ignore function or not read the thread; that being their choice as well.

The failure of not seeing the bigger picture is often reserved for the uneducated xtian zealots. A prime example is the above quote since Jedijohnnie just defended barbaric behavior (explaining how an instance in slavery is 'fair'). Owning people as property is a universally inhumane thing to do. Beating people is also. And one defending a 'fair' law about slavery w/o never saying slavery is wrong in the forefront speaks mountains.

Well, Johnnie, in what century does your imagination exist?  Once again you are trying to prove what kind of a complete moron you are.  We grew up out of slavery many, many years ago.  Any debate or discussion about when it's right to beat our slaves, or when it's justified to kill them is depraved and insane as far as I'm concerned.

I'm eagerly awaiting your next justification for slavery and how we should all best discipline our slaves.  Idiot.......

You just defended barbaric behavior and acted like slavery is no big deal so, yeah, I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

It would be ironic indeed were 'slaves' to blind religious faith treated with the same "fairness" as the "property" of prior religious adherent slave-holders.

I recommend that you don't beat your slaves with a rod, that's what the biblical verse is trying to tell you.  Smite them mightily with a rawhide whip, that will hurt them a great deal, but will rarely kill them.

Just one more lesson of the holy bible and the word of god, amen.
