I really didn't expect it to be anything big. I mean, i'm way up north and all I really need to worry about in the way of natural disasters are blizzards and ice storms, but my younger sister is in high school and they've cancelled her school next week, and my friends who attend local colleges don't have classes either. We've been tying down loose ends outside and getting water in case we lose power. I really hope we don't.

I live very close to the Potomoc River in North eastern Virginia. I am not scared, have been through a few of these but, I am not stupid either. I know the force of mother nature. I hope everyone on the east coast adheres to the warnings. I don't know about NJ, they seem to be having problems with people already from what I hear. I have plenty of supplies and am hunkered down. I see about 4-6 inches of rain and probably 30-50 K winds expected for my area. I may not be on the internet tomorrow night so I am doing my posts tonight. Keep safe all!!

Pretty tame storm so far in Chesapeake, VA.  It seems like the forecasters always get carried away.  I actually heard one forecaster say it would be the worst storm in the past 50 years for the whole of the East Coast. :bs:  Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy he and other forecasters were wrong. ;)  It did help a lot that the Hurricane is moving more to the west than previously indicated.  It isn't supposed to get "bad" here until noon and through the early evening, so hopefully I'm not caught eating my words.  I have beer, food, water, flashlights so I should be okay. 8)

They do tend to overhype things like this, but I said the same thing about Katrina. Felt terrible afterwards.

Definitely scared! I live in Rhode Island and us New Englanders are definitely not used to these natural disasters.  Stocked up on non-perishables, batteries, candles, radio, bottled water, a 42 qt. cooler on wheels, packed clothes, figured out emergency route in event of emergency and what shelter is closest to my home.  I am not taking any chances because I have a 3 year old toddler so I am taking every possible precaution.  I'd rather be over than under prepared.  I even stocked up on baby wipes in case we lose water..lol..(baby wipe baths) :sad1:

It's not very powerful and I've seen stronger wind/rain from thunderstorms, but unfortunately there have been a few casualties related to this storm.  The winds have been in the 40's with stronger gusts and a couple small tornadoes this morning.  There is flooding on many local streets to the point that they are inpassable.  A tree fell on an apartment this morning killing a 9 year old girl so I feel very sad for this family and others who have been affected.

I was getting worried, but now that it's here (I'm in NJ) I'm feeling surprisingly calm.  I think it was the anticipation of it that was getting to me, and now that it's here (it's not too bad yet, but this is it), meh.

East Coasters-you ready? scared?

I'm ready, not scared. I really hope I don't lose power.
