I never had a chance to read an e-book... I always disliked having to haul around an additional device in order to read them; if I dropped a book in water or had the book stolen, it's less than $10 that i lost, but were the same to happen to my Nook or Kindle, it's over $100. Plus any electronic gadget is more tempting to steal; I can save a seat at a restaurant (like some buffet where I'm leaving the table to get food) by leaving my book all alone, but I'd never do the same with an e-reader.

However, I just got a smart phone this summer, and I found that it has an e-reader app on it. So I may have to re-think my views. Since I'm always carrying my phone (and I have a belt-clip to hold it thereby freeing my hands), I'd be able to just take out my phone and continue reading my book wherever I want. I don't have to specifically remember to bring my book if I know there might be a wait and I'd want something to read. The only problem that I can see is that the phone's screen is fairly small... But if the text isn't made too small -- I may have to flip more pages as the font size will limit the number of words on each page -- I don't think that'll be too much of a hardship.

I'm currently reading the Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin; I have the first 4 books of the series as paperbacks, but the 5th book just came out this year so that'll prob'ly be my first e-book. I'll try it out and see which I like better.

Real book is nicer. Especially if you like collecting different covers and who knows what till happen when your electronics break.

Real books, I love the feeling of holding a book while I read it. Ebooks can be a pain and when you have a power outage you might not be able to read them.

As much as I like old-fashioned paper books, I think an e-reader would be a big space saver. I have alot of books and it would probably be better if they were all in one little machine. Anyway, I'm probably going to end up buying a kindle or something.

A real book because I don't have an e-reader. But even if I could afford one, I probably wouldn't get it, because there is just something about an actual book that makes me like it better than an e-version. Maybe it's the crispness of the pages, or the smell of fresh paper? Don't know, but either way, I'll be sticking to my hard and soft covers until the day when (GASP) e-readers are the only way to read!!

The truth is nowadays, you cannot go wrong with anything electronic. If you do not have your things somewhere online (there are free sites for that!) then you will regret when that crazy laptop decides to betray you. For real tangibles things such as books and CD's, I'm not sending a curse your way, but the truth is, floods happen, people with fishy minds like to steal.......My point is, things happen either way, I understand the real book in the hand feeling, but if you use eBooks, your computer (or devices) crash, then (if you had it online) you can always get it back.

Plus, you can't carry that many books around, anyway.....

Preference? E-book.

While I understand how great it is to have over 500 books at your fingertips, I personally prefer having that old fashioned page turning book in my hand.  I always fear an electronic not working one day and there you go—500 books lost in a split second.  It’s the same way with downloaded stuff like programs and music.  I prefer to have the disc for both.  That way if one day your Ipod or computer crashes you haven’t lost anything.  I’ve had a laptop crash on me and would have been $80 down had I done a downloadable version of my dvd watching program.  I’m so glad I had the disc that now I just reload the program if something like that ever happens again.

I purchased a Kindle 2 years ago and I love it.  As for losing them if the system crash, that will never happen because your books are saved on a back up system with Amazon for instance.  My Kindle is not affected by the weather and any book you order is downloaded to your kindle in seconds.  Although I have thousands of hard covers and novels, I would never give them up.  I love to read.  I love Technology.

For me it's paper book all the way.  I understand the convenience of the e-readers, and if I could read off of them, I'd probably go that direction...however with my dyslexia, reading a paper book is much easier for me (heck, I have problems reading some long posts on this forum.).  I'd never be carrying more than one paper book with me when I travel (unlike some of my friends who bring 3 books for a weekend retreat...and finish them all!).  With a paper book, I won't have any issues with oils on the page as I drag my finger across to keep my eyes focused.

Also, I can't use my really cool bookmarks with an ebook.   ;D
