Jesus Couldn't Had Been Born In December?
« on: November 17, 2011, 01:52:23 pm »
How could Jesus be born in the month of December? Because in December which is a winter month there was snow all over the ground. But when Jesus was born it was a warm sunny day  and Mary & Joseph were also walking around in their sandles.

I'm no expert, but I've heard he was actually born in March.

No one knows really when Jesus was born. December 25th is just when we celebrate it. One thing is that we are using the Gregorian calender right now, and in Jesus day they where using the Julian calendar. Which totally messes dates up. The book of Luke says that shepherds were tending their sheep when Jesus was born. Which indicates that it was sometime between June and November.

Given what happened after, no matter when the guy was born, the 'holiday' would have probably co-opted an existing pagan celebration it seems, (for example; xmyth in December co-opted solstice and other pre-existing pagan-celebrated events).  If it happened during the summer, they could've absorbed-and-diminished summer solstice.  In the fall, the pagan equinox celebration could've been ripped-off, etc..
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Jesus wasn't born in Jerusalem....He was born in Bethlehem.

I still dont think it snows there...but, I learned it wasnt the actual date anyway. That is just the date that was chosen to celebrate.

It is interesting to read everyone's posts.  I believe Jesus was born sometime between August and October.  The shepherds wouldn't have been out
in the fields with their flocks in December.

December 25th is just a Day set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus. There is not real evidence when he was really born.

I agree with this, he was born somewhere in the Spring time.

You guys do realize that the climate is different in Bethlehem than in the US, right?

I don't think so.
I know a Jesus, and he was born December 14th.
And regardless of when he was born--month wise--I'm sure the other Jesus is old enough to collect Social Security by now,
so it doesn't really matter either way. Now if your just saying that to challenge peoples beliefs, you will need some actual concrete evidence to counter what someone believes in without evidence.

This looks like a topic that could have been posted in the "Debate and Discuss" sub-forum (religious discussions are a part).  But anyway, I don't think his actual date of birth is nearly as important as his messages.
