I don't think that just because someone is on a diet they should stay home.  Thanksgiving is about giving thanks not about the Food or the diet.  If they feel uncomfortable about the food that is there I would just take small portions.  After all it's just 1 day out of the year.  On a day like that you would not want to miss the family dinner just because of a diet.

I would think the non dieters would be more understanding than uncomfortable. I say let the dieters come to dinner.

I would just advise those individuals who are on a diet during Thanksgiving to stop!  It is one of the hardest times of the year to start a diet and why waste all that delicious food and family time for "cutting calories".

I think they should go because its very good to be together as a family this doesn't happen every day But when they go they should know that they are not going just to eat its they are going to share special event and they can eat whatever they feel they are OK with without giving comments about diet and what they are eating when they eat no body looks at their plate. but when they talk about it they made it clear and obvious which they shouldn't do

I try to watch what I eat, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying Thanksgiving with the family. 'Course it helps that diabetes runs in the family, and my sis is a dietician. But seriously, Thanksgiving should be a time to get together with those you love; food is secondary in importance.

I think that thanksgiving should be more about spending time with loved ones and appriciating what you have. Its all about being thankful.  Even if someone is on a diet they should still be able to enjoy family and friends.

I think that Thanksgiving's not only about the food. Thanksgiving's about family and friends. If someone choose's a diet during the holiday's it's ok. You can still eat as much as you want too!

One day off of the diet is not going to hurt anything.

Either take a day off from your diet or eat the Thanksgiving meal in moderation.  Just requires more self control than most times.

I don't think there is anything wrong with letting lose for one meal a year.  If it is a mental thing where they eat like that for this meal and they have trouble staying on their diet after thanksgiving then that seems like a personal problem that doesn't have anything to do with thanksgiving dinner.

I think it is a holiday and they should enjoy themselves.  If it such a big deal then do a little extra cardio for the extra they eat.  I don't think one day every once in a while will break them, if they are doing exercise to work it off.

YES.....THEY SHOULDNT BE PUNNISHED BECAUSE THEY ARE DIETING OR OVERWEIGHT.  IF THE HOST OF THE PARTY KNOWS SOMEONE IS DIETING THEY SHOULD HAVE A FEW HEALTHY ITEMS ON THE MENU FOR THE DAY.

they should certainly go.. thanksgiving is not only about the food and if your diet keeps from enjoying even the smallest portions of the food everyone else is eating.. you can always bring your own and still enjoy the family :)
