Just keep in mind that no matter what device you discuss online, you are going to find those expressing their adverse opinions that have NEVER EVEN USED IT and many more that tried it by plugging it in without bothering to read the instructions or calling support with problems. I heard of one guy complained and after further checking, he had it plugged into a USB hub. After it was pointed out that there were BIG RED LETTERS right on the device that said, "Do NOT PLUG INTO HUB - Plug directly into any USB port on your computer" the problem suddenly went away. Magic Jack is an amazing device that works great for me as an extra line ($2 a month instead of $10 - $25) and doesn't deserve the bad reputation some people try to give it. It makes me wonder if they work for the PHONE COMPANIES that have been ripping us off for all these years!

Has anyone tried this thing? I was wondering if it actually worked well? Can you hear the person on the phone? Or is it choppy or what?

Vonage costs 10 times as much, so if price is your main focus it's not that much better. Now I just noticed Magic Jack has a new unit that doesn't need to be plugged into your computer, so I ordered one.

I love it! I have had it since 2007 and it works just fine for me.  They have a new one "magic Jack plus" that is supposed to be better...I think it really depends on your internet speed though.

I'm thinking about it as well.  The only thing is you have to have your computer on to receive and make calls.

Absolutely, just plug in a base station instead of a single phone. Now that they are coming out with Magic Jack Plus so you don't need a computer, it's even easier.

I used it for a couple of years. It would occasionally drop calls but was definitely worth the money. I use just an iPhone now, but I might start using MJ again for online purposes so I won't be hounded by people I don't know. :)

I've used Magic Jack without any problems and I would recommend it to anyone with a decent high speed service provider.

Thanks for the reply.  I will definitely have to consider.  Do you (or anyone) know whether you can send and receive faxes with Magic Jack?

The only Magic Jack I know of is for your cell phone and the car.  It was choppy when we tried to use it.

I heard it works great, but I have never tried it.  I am so old fashion I need the phone system.

This one is for your computer. It plugs into your USB port and you attach a normal phone to it. The Magic Jack Plus I just ordered doesn't need a computer, it plugs into your Internet and the wall.
