I read in the news and saw on tv that the copper penny dated before 1980 or so, is worth 0.024.  Do you save your pennies?  :dontknow:

I did not save them either, until now.  ??? I still see many in circulation even though the US is still making new pennies.  :dontknow: From now on I will check the dates and keep the copper ones   To think that they are almost worth three cents, makes a difference.  :notworthy:

I have a question about this Poppy.  Your first message said they were worth .024.  The next message you stated they were worth almost a quarter. I am confused.  If they are worth almost a quarter, for sure I will start looking at them a little closer.

We collect our change.  We have a different bank for each denomination.  When they get filled, we roll them and have a nice evening out.
Have a wonderful day!

They are NOT worth a quarter. They ARE worth around 2.5 cents if they are in mint condition. I believe someone misread that article.

I was only saving the pennies with the wreath thing on the back.  Now I will start looking at the dates as well.  Thanks for the info.

i do save coins of all denominations. i first started to collect when they introduced the state quarters and since then i have been paying more attention to the change that i get from stores and vending machines. i've received several Susan B. Anthony dollars, Kennedy half dollars, and even found a mercury dime on the floor at my old job. I've also received plenty of canadian coins too.

2.5 sounds more like it. Since there is a shortage, anyone know where I can cash them in for big money?

I have only been saving the "wheat pennies".  I have quite a stash of them, but have never looked through them to see the dates or condition.  I wouldn't know where to take them to see about getting paid for them.

They may be worth something if congress changes the law.  Right now the pennies cannot be melted down for the copper.  They are thinking of changing that law.

I just cashed in a 2 jars full of wheat pennies.  It depends on where the coins were minted, and what year they were made.  Wheat pennies are currently going for .03 cents.  Still not bad considering you will only get .01 for a penny made recently.
