Worst Christmas Gift You Ever Gave or Received?!

There was a similar topic in the Forum from last year, but it is closed, so I thought I'd start a new one!  Anyone have a story about the worst gift they ever received?  Or, maybe you gave a gift that you later realized was a mistake?  Do tell!

Worst gift I ever received: My ex-husband (who rarely gave me gifts for ANY occasion during our 16 years of marriage) went to the home improvement store and got me a small fountain.  It had very obviously been opened and returned previously; the box was smashed and torn, and the fountain inside was broken.  He apparently didn't bother to look at it before wrapping it up and giving it to me!  Needless to say, it went back to the store for an exchange.

Worst gift I ever gave:  I crocheted a hat for my Mom one year.  It was Pepto-Bismol pink (that was my first mistake) AND a couple sizes too large for her head.  She bravely put it on, rolled up the edges, and called it good!  But I felt like a complete dork!  (My crochet skills have improved a little since then).

I wouldn't say I have ever received a very bad gift, but my husband has many horror stories. A few years ago he got a toothbrush and toothpaste. Needless to say, he will never make the mistake of not making a list for his Dad again!

Hubcaps?  Or wheel covers?  Now....I could see wheel covers (especially fancy nice ones) being a decent gift.  But actual hubcaps?!

And... toothbrush/toothpaste?  That sends quite a message!!  LOLLLLLLLLLL!

To be honest, for me it is better to give then receive. I don't care what I get, I appreciate it thinking they gave it to me out of a good heart. For what I have given, I just gave chocolates to someone who is allergic to chocolates, but was not my intention, so I gave her money after I found out what I had done

My husband got me lovebirds one year after I had repeatedly asked him NOT to buy me any living thing, especially birds.

I felt bad for them, I really disliked those birds.

aww, why would he do that?  did he think he could

my fiance's aunt is notorious for giving FREE gifts... like those
plastic mugs with bank names on them, tote bags or hats with the
name of a business. the stuff places give away to promote their
company (companies we've never heard of, since she's in a
different state). she goes to all the trouble to ship these things
out, too. i'd be happier if she just sent a christmas card with
a couple of candy canes it ends up costing me more
to drive to the goodwill to drop the stuff off.

I work in a hospital and sometimes the patients give you gifts for Chritmas. Last year a nice older lady bought me a very nice looking sweater. It was Large and the problem with that was I wear Small. Its like they say its the thought that counts.

One of my favorite gifts to give...homemade cookies or fudge.  I also love a family tradition I have with my dad.  We are pretty luck people and truly don't need anything from each other.  So for Xmas, I pick an angel from a local tree drive.  Usually a child.  So much fun to buy for someone whom really needs it.  And because Dad is giving me the cash as my 'gift' I spend twice as much for the angel.

I think over the years I have gotten some great gifts and some bad ones but the only really "bad" gift I can remember was a terribly ugly sweater my ex-husband bought me one year ... I wouldn't have worn it in public!!!! Maybe that is one reason he is an ex

For what it's worth, I didn't get anything from my S/O this year.  I guess that could count as a lousy Christmas gift! LOL  However... as one user posted... it really is about giving more than receiving.  But still, I "give" all year long in my house, by taking care of the place and the people in it -- so once in awhile it'd be nice to receive too.
