Storage Wars
« on: December 28, 2011, 07:53:11 pm »
I don't watch too much reality TV but I love storage wars. Anybody else watch it out there? Has anyone tried to purchase a storage unit that was up for auction? I would love to hear about the experience.

Haven't in a while, but yeah, our family quite likes it.

Don't know if anyone has bought a storage locker before, but we've been to auctions and estate sales in the past. (I don't generally go to sales, just oogle the spoils afterwards lol)

I've heard there's a new 'version' of the show out, following different people and set in Texas. Anyone seen it?

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Storage Wars, the new Texas version, as well as Auction Hunters (a similar show found on Spike TV). I like watching the interplay between the different buyers in the Store Wars shows... I like how the producers have given them nicknames, and for the most part they seem to hold true to those names. The Texas version is similar in some ways, but the nicknames and interplay is a little different; for example the "Outside" is a transplant from NY while the "Rangers" seem to be good ol' Texans that love to tweak this Outsider that's playing on their turf. Auction Hunters is a little different in that it follows a couple of guys in business together going around to different storage locker auctions. So there is less interplay between the buyers that gets televised. Instead it shows how after an auction, the guys will go to other collectors of some of the more valuable items, and will haggle with them to sell those items.

I like how "the collector" goes into the storage sheds and just throwing things out and breaking them if he doesn't want them. He is just looking for collectibles.

This string of shows has been entertaining and very educational. It just seems like a lot of stuff to go through after you have won a locker.

I love the show as well.  The first time I watch it was during one of their marathons, and I think I watched it for about 6 hours straight.

I watch this show sometimes, so it's a pretty cool show and shows another way people can make money!

I've never heard of it before. It must be a cable tv show because all I get is the free over-the-air channels.

I do not like it because I do not like auctioneers! I believe in private property and the right to own property should not be jeopardized by anyone.

I love the show. And I have been to an auction. Nobody bids to the amount they do. They have to win lockers or there would be no show.

That's what I was always wondering - what does a storage locker at an auction actually sell for?
