New Year's Day food traditions
« on: January 01, 2012, 12:34:18 pm »
In the south we eat black-eyed peas, pork, collard greens (for money luck) and cornbread. Do other areas of the country have similar traditions?

hmm, i've never had particular foods that i eat
on new years day, but i usually fix a big breakfast
for my fiance and i on sundays and new years day
fell on a sunday this year! lucky for him  ;)

today we had scrambled eggs with cheese, french toast,
sausage, and we split an orange into slices and shared it.
i think we should make that meal a tradition, lol.
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

Unlike Thanksgiving and Christmas meals which usually include Turkey, Ham and/or a Roast, New Years meals don't include anything particular for me... although sort of alcohol is usually involved post-meal time!

I'm from Japan so it's our tradition to eat "OSECHI" on new year's. I don't know how to make them but luckily I was invited by my friend's friend, an older Japanese lady's house yesterday and had some OSECHI which was yummy and nostalgic.

We usually wait until Chinese New Year to celebrate with special food, so we don't usually have any other food traditions. We try to make an effort to go out and have a very nice dinner in someplace we've never tried before, so that was fun :)

I make like nachos, pigs in a blanket, wings, pizza, kind of the most greasy food as a last hoorah of the year.
