I just got my first new smartphone, and everything is so fantastic and lovely... until it ran out of power in one day. I literally have to charge my phone EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!!

I miss my old 2009 phone because it can last me up to 4 days (call, text, surf the internet) without charging it. I feel like these smartphones are using so much power with its many applications and tools. Someone NEED to invent a smartphone that can last me for days!!

They are making phone batteries to be weaker and weaker.  They want to make sure you have to buy replacement battaries.  All industries do this.  Whenever a product is recalled it is most likely because they product was made too well.  If they make a product that will last forever then they will run themselves out of bussiness.

I keep my iPhone turned off using the button at the top right. It will still ring. Also, you can choose what features to have running all the time. Makes a HUGE difference in battery life.

What kind of phone do you have?

I've got a smartphone and I charge it every night, and during the day as needed.  It's a smartphone- it's always pulling data so yeah, the battery will run down more quickly.  Turn off syncs if you need to conserve more power.

Yeah they run out surprisingly quick. I've learned to make sure that you get rid of any apps running in the background, cause those eat up a lot of juice even when your phone isn't in use. Also, turn down the brightness, cause that really sucks up a lot of power.

Someone at Verizon told me that the Droid holds a charge about 4 and a half hours.  My iphone does much better than that I usually charge it for a couple of hours every morning just as a habit but even after I check the newspaper and read a few articles on it in the morning I'm usually still at about 75 percent battery.

The short answer is Yes!!!  Obvious using apps and the internet drains the battery but they need to find a way to overcome this issue and get more battery life out of the newer phones.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and my battery will last through the day and only be down to about 65% when I get home. However, when I'm not at home, I only use it for calls/texts and I don't use it the whole time.
My boyfriend has an iPhone 4s and he had to purchase an extra USB cable so he can charge his phone when he comes to my house because the battery runs down that quickly.

I would say that if you want to get the most out of your smartphone's battery, only use it when its absolutely necessary when you're away from home and don't forget to kill any apps running in the background.

Using the internet and apps takes up alot of megabytes which causes the battery to run out faster than it normally would.  I have the Iphone and it still lasts longer than a non-smartphone though.

Smartphones tend to continuously pull data from some apps so of course the battery is going to run out faster than regular feature phones. My phone is always checking the weather, email, facebook, etc so of course my battery is going to run out faster than someone who has a basic phone.

I heard the Iphone battery goes quick.   I have one small tip that may help.  For your emails turn off that you get updated automatically and that saves battery life.  Also, some apps update all the time see if you can turn that off when not using that app.  Let me know if it helps.

thanks everyone!!

this is a new phone that I'm still getting used to (and my first smartphone) I have a Samsung Replenish, the first green phone Sprint released a few months ago. I really love everything about this phone... except battery life. Basically, battery life is the ONLY thing sucks.

Also... I have looked through virtually EVERY SINGLE WEBSITE that gives advice about battery life preservation... and still my smartphone runs out of battery so quickly. I guess I have to learn to live with this ONE flaw about this phone...
