They didn't show up. I woke up before noon for nothing.

Maybe they read this forum ... or injunctions?

No doubt they can find some 8 year old to read to to them.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

These people are horrible! I could not imagine protesting at a strangers funeral. I'm sorry you weren't able to protest against them. They deserve the same treatment they deal out.

It's fundamentalism, taken to the extreme of 'religious' beliefs.  Anyone who knows someone in the Kansas City area may want to consider an appropriate, (and first amendment-protected), counter-protest of the WBC.

I did a show one weekend in Topeka Kansas. They are located there.  Out of curiosity I drove by head quarters. I saw nothing. It's the same as driving by a strip club and expecting to see one in the lot I guess.

Timing is everything; wait for one of the Phelps rednecks to die-off and that'll be the moment to 'protest' one of their funerals.

That "church" is a really messed up group. I watched a documentary on them to find out what makes them tick. They're compltely insanse. They'll even toss out members of their own family if they step out of line.

That they are, and on so many different levels too.  Odd how none of the more outspoken xtians on this forum have neither dissented nor agreed with the WBC isn't it?

Let them continue to obtain it incestuously then.

I believe in freedom of religion--or, freedom from religion, if that's what works for you.  I really, really do--but the Westboro Baptist folks try my tolerance to the breakiing point.  It demonstrates a gross lack of compassion to protest any cause at a funeral.  Funerals are painful enough for family and friends to endure; I know this from personal experience, and I know a lot of you know this as well.  Maybe they can't be dis-allowed, but--if local ordinance can keep them far, far away I would not/never object.

To sum it up:  I just really have a hard time with their sort of thing.

P.S. I know this is an older thread, but I just had to vent a little.  I find this group's actions disturbing, to say the least.

"outspoken xtian" as in reference to me?   :dontknow:  I had posted my feelings about westboro in previous posts.  I believe WBC is doing more harm than good, they incorrectly interpret Scriptures and it's obvious the love God has for everyone is not in their hearts.  They are so hateful, if they ever showed up at a funeral that I was at---I would be so  :angry7:   angry.  Sorry falcon9, I would have posted sooner... but...was hesitant 'cuz ... the OP doesn't like me. ;D

Not in the Westboro context.

I had posted my feelings about westboro in previous posts.

Must have been a different and earlier thread which I missed.  That just emphasizes that I wasn't referring to you in this one.

Agreed concerning the WBC with an expanded caveat that one of the 'reasons' the WBC 'people' apparently seek media attention is to get away with not being fire upon by the military honor guard at such military funerals.  It's a good thing that a check is made to assure that blanks are being used by the honor guard instead of live rounds, (although firing blanks at the blank-minded WBC members would be appropriate too).

I have pulled that duty and honor before.  Handing a folded flag to a widow or other family member without the disruption of a bunch of fundie yahoos the the ceremony is preferable to lowering the "saluting rifles" by just a hair's breadth.
