I have not heard of that tradition either.  I am single and I have plates that I have not used in a very long time being as I wash them when I use them and never get down to the bottom of the stack. Would be a waste for me to throw them away each year.

Never heard of this tradition of throwing away old dishes at year end and getting new.  However, sounds like a tradition that I could get to like, now if I could only get my husband to like  this tradition as well lol.  But seriously I have never heard of such a thing. But if you have, and thats what you want to do, more power to you.

I found a company that sells unbreakable plastic dishware. ...no more cracks or lines if the drink is too cold.
