If there is nobody home during working hours, then I recommend at least 2, so they can play together and they do comfort each other from boredom.  If you are home all day, then one or more can work.  They need exercise so where you live has a lot to do with it.

Not sure about everyone else.  I can tell you that I have 2 cats and a young dog.  we seem to enjoy them.

There needs to be at least enough pets in the house that they can play with each other but not so many that you can't afford to pay for a vet visit.  I personally have 3 dogs, 2 cats, a tarantula, and some fish. I have enough time to play with everyone and go on a nightly walk with the dogs and my baby. The cats love to chase the laser light and string so it's easy to entertain them. It is fun and I love them all.

pets: love them love them, but if you dont have the means to totally commit yourself to having a pet or pets, i believe you have to love them enough to let them go where there will be ample space, food. love cant buy everything

I definitely believe that there should be 2 dogs if the people are gone a good part of the day.  They need each other to play with.  Even if someone is home all day, 2 is still good as they can play with each other.

I just have one pet and its my male dachshund which is fine by me since I live in a apartment. so, I can't have multiple animals running around here lol. I hope to run my own farm some day but, thats just a dream for now.

I think alot of it depends on the size of your place. My son has 3 large dogs and 1 small and I think that they have to many for the size house they have.

It all depends on the individual. As long as you're not a hoarder with a mental condition (a.k.a, Crazy Cat Lady Syndrome) and have the space and can afford to efficiently take care of your animals, then it's okay if you have a few.

Personally I have one cat and that's good enough for me...  :cat:
